I met my boyfriend at work. We are older.
We dated for 4 months before I found out that he was an rso.
He didn't tell me, I found out on my own.
Obviously I freaked out and shared this news with my adult daughter. She was blown away as much as I was.
We immediately decided that I wouldn't tell my adult son. None of my siblings or family know. I never intend to tell them.
I found that I could forgive this man of his crime, but unfortunately I can never forget. It crosses my mind daily.
I don't think that my family would understand my decision. But, it is my life, and we are happy together.
One day at a time.
Currently have a two and a half year old son and am expecting our daughter in five weeks. I've opened up to family and a few friends about my husband and shared his story. Took me a long time to work the courage to share, but it was pretty painless because everyone that I felt comfortable to tell has built a relationship with my husband. I have yet to experience someone who has decided to shun us after they hear his story.
We recently moved and he's on a public registry where we live so that was pretty difficult. There are some neighbors that clearly have a problem with us and aren't afraid to make it known. We've also had some neighbors who found out and kept their distance for a while, but ended up giving us a chance and have gotten to know us better. Some neighbors just really didn't care at all. I had to sign up for therapy after our move because the whole ordeal was extremely overwhelming, but can say almost a year later that once the "shock" wears off, most people find other things to worry about.
What I'm most worried about is my children especially when it comes time for school. Am I obligated to tell parents? Will my children be ostracized or bullied? Definitely scary to think about it all, but just know you're not alone.
As for the parents of your children friends it will be hard and that too is okay because it will show you the mentality of people. Whether you tell the parents or not they will find out.
My husband is home and I allowed him to explain his situation to our children because that's his story not mines and it much better coming from him as for the children friends they aren't allowed at my house anyways because I don't do company and when the children have any parties its gone in a public place.
We explained to our children in the beginning it will be hard because people will judge us however let them judge because we know the truth.
We also told them that eventually things will fade away and no one will pay it any attention.
