My son was sentenced in Montana (finally) on September 4th. He is still sitting there waiting to be transported to pahrump, and then to wherever they are going to house him. His PD here was told that as soon as Montana was done with him, they would get him back east ASAP so that he is closer to his "support system". I live in Western New York.
Neither his PD here, or his PD there have any idea why he is still there (I have asked them both).
He tells me he has seen guys get shipped out that had been sentenced after he was.
His current PD has filed a few appeals regarding his case, but he said that should have no affect.
I just want him moved to wherever they are going to keep him so I can start working on getting him half way decent much needed health care. He also needs to be somewhere where he can actually eat the food they serve him.
He is currently sitting at Crossroads Correction Center in Shelby, MT. I honestly think of all the places he has been stuck so far, this one is the worst.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I cannot give you the information specific for the federal system, but I can give you a fairly accurate answer for the state system; I am thinking there would not be too much difference between the two.
Once an defendant is sentenced and goes back to the county jail, it usually takes anywhere from one up to three or possibly four months for them to ship him to reception; if I had to be more specific, two to three months are more likely.
He will be at reception anywhere from 21 days to two months and then they will ship him to his destination prison.
If they are shipping him back east, it may take longer.
I am sorry I cannot be more definite regarding the times, but they vary from state to state and according to how much prison space is available. As soon as there is a warm bed available, he will be sent out.

Rew, Thanks for the info. I really hope federal is faster than state.
He did tell me that when he leaves there he will be in Pahrump for a few weeks. I'm thinking longer. It's getting very frustrating, I haven't seen him in a year and a half.
