I don’t post much here—it’s not easy for me to share. But I’m feeling pretty challenged and need some advice. You are the only ones who will understand.
Brother is in prison and is scheduled to be released this summer. He had a consensual relationship with a 17 year old and they took pictures of each other. The sex was legal, but the photos were not. (Crazy, I know). He was charged with CP and sentenced to 4 years in state prison. His will be released this summer and his parole is 3 years to life.
He is in Illinois and I live 900 miles away. There is no family close by who can help him much. There is no one he can live with, so I will have to make a few trips up there to see if I can rent a place for him to live. His PO will have to approve of the address before he is released. Also, he is not allowed to live in the same building as another registered citizen. (I like that phrase better than SO). And in Illinois, if he has no residence, he will have to serve his parole in prison. Three years to life.
Even if I can find a place for him to live, he will be facing his parole mostly alone. You guys know that it’s no cakewalk, even with a good support system, which he doesn’t have. He won’t be allowed to use the internet, and working on computers was how he made his living. He’s been told that he will have to find a new line of work, but he stubbornly doesn’t want to believe that. Maybe it’s too much for him. He left his apartment one day in 2012 to get a hamburger and was picked up by the police. He hasn’t been out of custody since that day. He hasn’t had access to much information about what to expect from the registry. He thinks I am doom and gloom when we discuss his future restrictions—wants to move to Florida when he can. (OMG!!!)
Even though he is serving a much shorter sentence than most, he is understandably desperate to get out and adamant about not spending one extra day in prison. He doesn’t want to lean on me, but he can’t do this alone. I have to figure out how to find a suitable residence for him in the greater Chicago area. Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

A rural area, with very few neighbors, will solve the problem of residency restrictions and it will also get him out of the city limits. Any pesky town or city ordinances affecting registered citizens will not affect him as he will be out of the city limits.
Also country folk usually keep busy and don't have as much time to be busybodies to cause problems.
I realize locating in a rural area is not always possible, but it really is the best situations.
Just a thought.

They talk about laws and restrictions. I would look at the registry and get some addresses of apartments by doing zip code searches.
I know people on this forum are from Chicago and maybe they will get on.
