There is a post on here titled “Best state for a sex offender” that has a ton of information on different states. Better states somewhat close to Kentucky that are mentioned are Nebraska, Ohio, and also Pennsylvania. My fiancé is in prison in PA and the restrictions for when he gets out aren’t too bad.

How is the cost of living there ?

It depends on where you live. PA is a large state and some areas in the mountains are dirt cheap but jobs are hard to come by and don’t always pay the best. Around us, you can buy a house that needs fixed up for as low as $5000. Other areas have better jobs and pay but the cost of living is considerably higher also. If you have a skill, it’s a lot easier. There are some factories around here also that pay decently and will hire people with a felony.

We are in the same position and looking where to go.

How do I find that post?

Pennsylvania is not a bad state at all for sex offenders. They do not have statewide residency restrictions, but some municipalities have enacted their own restrictions.

Also, b/c of the Muniz decision, Pennsylvania was forced to rewrite some of their sex offender restrictions and make them less burdensome.

My husband and I relocated from N.Y to V.A There's so restrictions aren't as bad as some states, however it's a commonwealth state so you have alot of other things to be cautious about as well. I will tell you yo make sure you do your research on any state you choose.

I heard Georgia , Texas and Pennsylvania are good states how true is it I don't know just be very cautious about any move you make.

If you are finding it difficult to find a place to live, here is what you can do.

Go to the sex offender registry website for your state. Browse through some of the sex offender registrants and notice where they are living. After all, you know they are being compliant within the law and are living in a legal area. Once you see the area where some of the registrants are living, you will know where to look.

Many sex offender registries also have a search option where you can plug in an address or area and all the offenders who live a certain distance from that area will appear.

On the left hand side, there is some text which says, “Search the sex offender registry.” Click that link.

After clicking, this page should appear.

Toward the top you will see some tabs labeled “Zip” “Address” “Name” “County” “City” “School.”

Since you said you lived in Hampton, Va, type in “Hampton” after clicking the “city” tab. Click the “city” tab and then put “Hampton” in the search box. I put in Hampton in the search box and then I clicked search.

The search gave me 464 offenders with Adams, Dean being the first result. Everyone listed in the search results is living at a legal address and being compliant with the law, so you know any address listed is legal.

464 offenders are a lot of offenders. You can redo the search to narrow it down somewhat.

So let’s narrow it down. In your search results above, notice the second offender listed----Adkinson, Steven. His address is 1585 Briarfield Road, Apt 3. Right off, you know he lives in an apartment complex and that the apartment complex is a legal place to live.

Notice that his zip is 23666.

Go back to your search page, but this time click “zip”. We are going to narrow this down by using the zip search function. Mr. Adkinson’s zip code is 23666, so let’s put “23666” in as a search criteria. When I performed a search of the 23666 zip, it narrowed it down to 158 offenders.

You can use any of the criteria to perform your search.

THIS METHOD WORKS ON EVERY SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY AND IT WILL HELP YOU TO AT LEAST DETERMINE WHERE IT IS LEGAL TO LIVE IN YOUR AREA.

I live in Nebraska. I'm not sure about all the restrictions yet, won't be sure until my husband gets out of jail in 5 months and starts probation, but I will say the cost of living is extremely low. All my coworkers are buying houses, some of them just to flip them because it's such a good price.
But his lawyer told me this week we won't find out about the terms of probation and restrictions until he gets out, so I can give you more information then if you are interested.
