What does a guy who is innocent do once he is convicted and goes to prison for a sex crime? This is a huge dilemma for those innocent who were convicted of a sex crime.
The prison staff immediately wants to enroll him in a sex offender treatment program, but of course, they will not accept anyone who does not admit guilt. So the inmate is faced with the prospect of either lying and making up a story so he can get into the program or continuing to maintain his innocence; if he maintains his innocence and refuses to attend the program, at many prisons he will receive a misconduct for a program failure and lose a lot of good time. That will delay his eventual release from prison for as much as up to a year.
Regarding parole, the dilemma is similar. If an inmate goes before the parole board and refused to admit guilt, he has no chance of making parole. So does he make up a story to the parole board in a quest to get out early?
So early in his sentence he must decide what he wants to do. Does he want to "play the guilty game" and enroll in the sex offender program, get some extra time credits, have a better chance at making parole OR does he decide to just be true to himself and never admit guilt and let the chips fall where they may.
I refused to give in. On two different occasions I was told I needed to enroll in the sex offender treatment program, but I refused. They put me in solitary for 102 days, but when I got out, they did not give me a misconduct or take away any of my good time. So all it cost me was 102 days in solitary confinement.
As for parole, I just waived my last two parole dates and did not even bother going in front of the board.
I felt as if they had done about as much to me as they could possibly do, so I was in no mood to play games with them. Also I reasoned that there was no way I could make parole anyway, so refusing to go before the parole board was not a big deal.
I know there are others here who are innocent and this is a choice that they will, at some time, be forced to make. There are no right or wrong answers, and I don't look down on guys who just "play the game" and make up a story. I just was not in the frame of mind to do that.
Everyone has to do their time in a way which makes them comfortable.

Then today, this article comes up.
My main point is that any innocent inmate entering needs to devise a plan on how he will handle his conviction.
I feel this story might help others.

My husband only had 3 months, he played the game, did his SO treatment, and was left off probation early.
Yes, it is a personal choice. I can't say either was right or wrong
i am of the mind that after serving 23yrs in prison for his crime and being paroled and not causing any problems? why should he have to wear a GPS for the rest of his life?
