My son is 15 years on the registry here in PA. plus 15 years probation he got from his FL sentencing. My son is tier 1 for possession 1 count cp. He got 30 months in Fl Federal prison. Not knowing is the bad part...

Federal time seems to be a lot more than state. Don't understand it either. Mine got 87 months for 1 count poss of CP.. State did not charge.

My husband got charged by the state, which was lucky for him because all the other people that were arrested during the sting got charged federally. In NJ if you are charged with a sex crime you usually get parole supervision for life. The judge in his case sentenced him to 3 years in prison and no lifetime parole. We don't know what tier he will be but we're hoping for tier 1. He took a plea deal for 1 count of distribution of cp (actually in nj its listed at endangering the welfare of a child). His plea was for 3-5 years (the prosecution pushed for 5) but the judge thought 5 years was too harsh and gave him 3. So you never know what the judge is going to do. You just have to live everyday. It's so hard to go through but the day of sentencing is just the next step. Once that is over, it's over and you move on. New stresses will come, but you will get through it with the support you have (wether its from home or here). Keep in mind that the day of the sentencing is one day closer till he comes home. Keep yourself busy, that's what's helping my and my children through this rough time.

That sounds like an instant replay of what happened to my son with one exception ..My son was told ONLY upon his release that he was Parole for Life.
NJ also. Get it on paper, PFL is a horrible sentence.

For life! Nj is horrible!!! 15 years on the registry and parole for life...

Thump, luckily it is on paper. That's the first thing I checked, double checked and checked again with the lawyer. It's on the court papers.

If you or anyone else here are not sure about your loved one's sentence, go to the court clerk of the county in which they were convicted and get a copy of his Judgment and Sentence document, sometimes called a J&S for short. It is one of the few documents that you can rely on to determine to what your loved one was sentenced.

The J&S is a written document signed by the judge and filed with the court which spells out EXACTLY the provisions of the sentence.

I have been staying busy cleaning out closets and getting ready to paint. When I feel stressed cleaning my house seems to help. My son is hanging in there , he knows he has the support of his family and some of his friends before he was arrested. And he is getting along with everyone on his block ,he doesn't ask any personal questions and he doesn't give out his personal info.. He plays cards , basketball with the other cell mates. The guards seem to leave him alone, I guess because he is quiet and doesn't bother anyone. I have had several guards tell they are hoping he gets a short sentence. BTW he asked me not to paint the house yellow or green, everything around him is yellow and green. Also I have been surprised lately by how many people who have small children told me they never look at the registry. Because there are two many people on there that are not a threat, and that they are more afraid of people who are walking around carrying guns
in local stores and restaurants.

One thing I found interesting. How well an attorney knows the Jduge.
I found that some Attorneys have gone to the same law school as the judge and it DOES have an effect on sentencing.
