I am sorry you are having these problems. Let’s see if we cannot get you some help so your family has a stable place to call home.
If a sex offender registrant counters problems, it will usually be in two areas----1) employment, and 2) a place to live.
In Montana you may have two problematic areas for residency. Certain offenders have residency restrictions in that they cannot live within a certain distance---I think I it is 300 feet---of a school or places where there are a lot of minors. Your husband may or may not be included in that group of offenders. Additionally, it is difficult to find a landlord that might rent to sex offenders.
Obviously, most of the sex offender registrants in Montana have a place of residency. Some may be homeless, but most have found an address to call home. If we can find where other offenders are living, then there is a good chance that your family can live in that area also.
We also can conclude that the registrants on Montana’s sex offender registry internet site are compliant with the residency restrictions and living in a legal area.
So, lets go to the Montana sex offender registry search page-----
http://tinyurl.com/ycw4c5rr
When you access that link, you will be taken to a search page with two panes. Let’s start with the pane of the left hand side of the screen, the offender basic search.
I have no idea where you are located in Montana, but let’s pretend that you want to live in the town named Dillon. I just chose Dillon at random, btw.
Go the “city” box in the pane on the left. In the box, it already says, “Choose a city.” Click that with your mouse. A drop down box will appear, which will list a bunch of cities located in Montana. Select Dillon and it will automatically search for the offenders who live in Dillon.
Scroll about halfway down the page and you will see this text---
“ There are 26 sexual or violent offenders in 28 locations in the city: DILLON.”
You will also see each offender listed with his home address. Now remember, if he lives at that address, you have to conclude that the address is legal and he is compliant.
Of the 26 offenders listed, only 13 are sex offenders. The other 13 are violent offenders.
I scrolled through the names of the offenders. The first name that caught my eye was Cynthia Inman. The reason I noted this is that she has an address that obviously is either an apartment complex or mobile home park. At any rate, she lives around some other people.
Her address is given as---
33 Idaho State #2. Given this information, you can conclude that there are a number people at that address and at least one of them, Ms. Inman, is a sex offender. So whoever controls that apartment complex or whatever it is, will rent to sex offenders, since they rented to Cynthia.
I noticed the same thing with Corey Martinez. His address has a specific number---#3, 1900 Hiway 41 North #3. You know that sex offenders do and are permitted in that area.
You may have to do a Google search of the addresses. For example, I just Googled Cynthia’s address. I typed “33 idaho state Montana” in the search box (without the quotation marks). In my search results, the second hit was a Wikipedia entry for Idaho State Hiway 33. I clicked that link (the link is below).

This took me to the Wikipedia entry. Here is what it said----
“State Highway 33 (SH-33) is a state highway in Idaho spanning from U.S. Route 20 (US-20) and US-26 to Wyoming Highway 22) at the Wyoming state line.” Now you have the area.
By using this technique, you can get an idea of where the sex offenders in Montana are living. You can then do some research and find out the rentals in that area and within that area, your chances of finding a residence are very good.
You may have a problem in that you cannot find anyone that wants to rent to a sex offender registrant. You could rent it in your name only, but the landlord might wonder why you did that. It pays to be honest and they may have some sort of community notification anyway, which would expose the fact that he is living with you.
Some landlords just have a blanket policy of “no sex offenders allowed.” Hell, some won’t rent to felons. But some will consider it on a case by case basis. If your husband’s crime is 20 years ago and he has not reoffended, that is a big plus. If he is gainfully employed, that is also a huge plus. I don’t know what his offense was or if it was against a child, but if his offense is not rape or a violent crime, you may be able to talk to a reasonable landlord and find a place to stay.
Try what I have just suggested. If you still are stumped or have any questions about my technique, message me. I post at numerous boards dealing with sex offenders and prison reform, so I come by here a few times a day to pick up my messages. If you message me, I will get back with you.
You and your family deserve a decent place to live. If you don’t know me, I will tell you that I am a huge supporter of sex offenders and their families. I will do what I can to help so you will have a place to live.
