In an earlier thread, the discussion turned to Glenn Beck and Fox News. I jokingly referred to Fox News as Faux News and was asked to provide some examples of why I feel that way.
First I want to preface this by saying I care about everyone on this board and I would never disrespect anyone’s beliefs. Some people might like Fox News or Glenn Beck----and that is fine with me.
I do not watch TV except for sports events such as NFL, college football, or other sports. None of the networks are our friends and both political parties have failed the middle class.
I deal with facts, not emotion, and all my opinions are fact-driven.
All the networks have their own agenda. All the major networks usually have a topic and invite a couple of guests to debate, usually one guest debates one side and the other guest debates the other point of view. The anchor usually tries to stay neutral and allow the guests to debate. Fair enough.
They all do that----except Fox News. It is only on Fox New that the actual ANCHORS ADVOCATE a position. The actual anchors become the mouthpieces for a certain position instead of allowing guests to debate.
I will give you specific examples, with links to each example. Within these examples, I am only including remarks and positions taken regarding sex offenders, Megan’s Law, the AWA, and other issues that we all face on a daily basis. I don’t really care or want to discuss political issues here nor to argue which party (Republic or Democratic) part is against us; nor do I want to discuss Liberals vs. Conservatives.
These quotes are not rumor and they are not hearsay. The links will give you a specific quote and when the quote was made.
And, I will show everyone why I do not like Fox News. They sensationalize issues, shade the truth, and are literally at war with US, sex offenders.
These few examples are just a small sample of the ones I found. These are NOT just anomalies; the misinformation and vitriol concerning sex offenders are representative of Fox News.
And this is why I referred Fox News as Faux News.
The first anchor on Fox News who clearly has an agenda against sex offenders in general is Bill O’Reilly. Throughout the years he has vehemently supported both Megan’s Law, the AWA, and tougher laws for all sex offenders.
Let’s begin with Bill.
http://www.corrections.com/news/article/30085
This first article was a commentary written concerning the passage of Jessica’s Law. You can read the article if you want, but I will copy and paste for you the text that is important for this discussion.
Bill O’Reilly of FOX News urged viewers to push their governors for even tougher laws to protect kids. “This is literally a life-and-death battle to save our youngest and most vulnerable citizens from abuse, torture, and murder,” O’Reilly warned. “I hope you'll do your part.”
Life or death? Abuse, torture, murder? Sensationalism at its worst.
If you like what laws such as Jessica’s Law has done to us, then I guess you will adore Bill O’Reilly. There was not one TV personality that showed more support for Jessica’s Law as O’Reilly. It is not even closed. He preached and preached about it for months before its passage. He had Mark Lunsford on his program several times.
O’Reilly was also a big proponent of the AWA and created a stir, criticizing those states who decided not to adopt the AWA. Again, he preached and preached and preached his position.
Now I do believe that Bill O’Reilly is a big part of Fox News. Is this the news organization whose anchors use this bombastic language that we want?
Not me. Maybe some members here like him, but I detest any commentator that advocates for harsher laws for sex offenders. Our movement is having a difficult enough time without some sensationalistic news anchor promoting laws and inciting hate against us.
Again, O’Reilly AS AN ANCHOR OF FOX NEWS is using his position to instill fear into the public concerning sex offenders.

In this segment, Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News program put four governors on the hot seat because they had not adopted Jessica’s Law.
Here are some of O’Reilly’s comments. Remember O’Reilly is a Fox News anchor.
To be fair, some of these rhetorical questions were not asked by O’Reilly himself but by the producers of his program, “The Factor,” but it is still representative of Fox News’s position on sex offenders and sex offender legislation.
O'REILLY: As usual, we have to explain to Governor Corzine that strict laws don't matter unless they're enforced. That's why you need mandatory sentences.
WATTERS: About how many dead girls are we going to tolerate here? I mean, over and over again, it's another story after another story out of Vermont?
BANK (one of the producers of “The Factor”) I'm wondering when your state is going to pass Jessica's Law? Forty-two other states have it. I'm wondering when your state will?
“Fair and balanced” my ass. That transcript is slanted and it purpose is obvious---to promote more hurtful legislation against sex offenders.
I challenge anyone to read the entire transcript and not tell me that Fox News is not against sex offenders and for more laws that hurt us. Sensationalistic reporting at its worst.

This article refers to an appearance Bill O’Reilly made on the Oprah show concerning sex offenders.
Here is what Mr. Bill said, On Oprah last week he made the following statement, “You’ve got to understand. This thing, this molestation, rape, never goes away,” O’Reilly said. “We have an obligation to get rid of them (sexual predators). To put them away so they can’t possibly hurt anybody again.”
Get rid of them? Put them away?” Again he is lumping all sex offenders into the same category and attempting to poison the atmosphere so more legislation that HURTS EVERY ONE OF US can be passed.
Again, I traced this quote to several sources, so I know that Mr.O’Reilly, an agent of Fox News, did say this.
Please don’t read this and tell me you like Fox News or Bill O’Reilly. YOU CANT BE SERIOUS.
Does anyone see a pattern here? I sure do.
Next lets look at Glenn Beck when he was at Fox.
First link:
http://www.williamapercy.com/wiki/index.php?title=Glenn_Beck's_comments_on_%22sex_offenders%22_are_ill-judged_and_promote_murder!
On TV Channel 41 on Boston, Mass (a national network), Friday 22nd February, Glenn Beck breezily pontificated that he had “zero tolerance for pedophiles,” and proclaimed they should either be “killed” or kept in prison for life and thus ruined.
You have to understand that when his audience heard the word “pedophile”, they assumed sex offenders in general.
Killed?
Kept in prison for life?
Is this what everyone on this board wants for sex offenders? Not me.
This quote was made by the darling Mr.Glenn Beck, who represented Fox News at some point.
The last quotes are quotes I do not have a link for, but trust me, I would not lie about something like this. Some time back Barry Scheck, an American hero, who founded the Innocence Project, was on the O’Reilly Factor to promote his Innocence Project. This organization has been instrumental in vindicating many men from prison via DNA, who were not guilty----a very noble endeavor.
Scheck was explaining to O’Reilly that many of these men were convicted of sex crimes and that sex crimes were the easiest crime to be set up for, since little evidence is needed for a conviction. Scheck went on to say that the DA’s were partially to blame because they see nothing but a conviction instead of true justice.
O’Reilly went ballistic and then made a complete fool of himself (to me at least; I guess some people still like him) when he said, “Sex offenders need to ROT in prison. I have NO sympathy for sex offenders.” Scheck, taken aback, said “What if they are innocent and did not commit the crime because of corrupt DA’s?” O’Reilly shot back and said, “Oh, I will never believe that DA’s would ever do anything that might convict an innocent person. THESE GUYS ARE GUILTY AND NEED TO ROT IN PRISON.”
Rot in prison?
This is just the tip of the iceberg. I have pages of quotes where the Fox News network has bashed sex offenders and done their best to poison the public’s mind about us.
I have quotes from two other media darlings of Fox News, Megyn Kelly and Laura Ingraham. I did not include them here because of time restraints. I also have a couple from Sean Hannity who is nothing but a dolt and a mouthpiece for the right wing.
I don’t care what you watch or who you believe, but I do want you to be educated about who is our worst enemy.
I was asked to give examples of why I hate Fox News; well, I have.
I have many more examples, but these should suffice.
It is difficult to argue with the facts and still be credible. I have given you links and the quotes to show that Fox News hates us and sensationalizes sex offender issues to poison the public against us.
Fox news has an agenda that misleads the public regarding sex offenders, preaching hate toward us-----and the “us” is you and I.
I love you all and I work hard to further our fight so we can someday all live in peace.

I think one problem is that some people were watching Fox and Bill O'Reilly long before they were affected by these sex offender issues, so it is difficult for them to discern the truth.
Hell, I have been in this for almost two decades, long before O'Reilly came on the scene and before there was even a Fox network. So I kind of understand.
What really is sad is that several times a guest is on O'Reillys program to talk about Megan's Law or Jessica's Law or something regarding sex offenders. If the guest makes the mistake and says one little thing on OUR behalf, O'Reilly will cut off their microphone and the station will cut to a commercial. I have seen this happen many times.
"We report, you decide" is Fox new's motto. What a laugh.
One of the reasons sex offenders and their families are in this mess to begin with is that too many people have idolized stations like Fox news and believe everything they hear on that network.
Where do you think people first hear about all the misconceptions about sex offenders? It is from people who hate us and advocate against our movement---people like the anchors at Fox News.
Still like O'Reilly?
rewdiazepam
It bothered me because there are so many sex offenders who are not guilty.
This should be an affront to all of us, especially the disenfranchised, as sex offenders and their families are.
No, I do not like Fox News. How can anyone defend anyone who hates them for no reason?
rewdiazepam
His show is on Fox. He did a 6 part series about the ridiculous laws concerning sex crimes. Here's a link to part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxullP0DaNg
I have heard O'Reilly spout lies and push for states ( I believe one was Colorado) to pass Jessica's Law and blather on about how ALL sex offenders should serve life sentences or be executed. I have written to him and sent links to the really story on Lunsford. I also reminded him about his little sexual harassment "problem" in 2004 and how deep pockets took care of it for him. I am certain he never read it. People like him , who scream the loudest about one specific thing - are usually hiding a dirty little secret somewhere.
CNN , MSNBC , CBS , ABC , etc... don't help our cause either.
For years, many years ago, Geraldo was an excellent investigative reporter (OK, let's forget about the Capone fiasco), but he has degenerated into an idiot.
My point is that I do not care which network or which anchor gives us a fair shake; I just want the truth about sex offenders to be heard. My main goal is that someday we can all rejoice in the fact that some of the sex offender restrictions have been lifted. I do not care if this is accomplished by a Democrat or Republican or Conservative or Liberal. I just want fairness for us all.
I am not a political person, but I do have very passionate views on the registry and sex offender laws in general.
And I certainly do not like to argue politics here because sometimes it divides people---and we need to all stick together. Politically speaking, it does not matter what I think, and I am not afraid to be wrong on some issues.
I do not like Fox News because they have too many anchors that will not give all of us a fair deal.
rewdiazepam
Fair and balanced? Not a chance. They are just TV junk mail. Too bad people get swept up into their misrepresentations. As I have learned through experience, Just because someone is mean, angry and intolerant doesn't make them right! Unfortunately, many people fall for that trap.
Rew..You can start, finish and be in between when it comes to Bill O'Reilly, I don't like him because he is just a mean and nasty person....
Let's go with Glen Beck...You do know that he started at CNN right?.. Glen Beck was fired from FOX because he wouldn't go along with their agenda..
Let's stay with CNN..."Nasty" Nancy Disgrace, 'nuff said there, Greta Van Sustren...No better..Piers(what kind of name is that)Morgan certainley has no love for us, in fact he can be as nasty as Nasty Disgrace.
MSNBC....I can't remember if it was Ed Shultz or one of the others, but that person said that Fmr Vice Pres. Cheney's heart IS A POLITICAL FOOTBALL and should be kicked around then shoved back in his chest..
Shultz sain that Republicans would like nothing better than to see POTUS dead.(Yet you politely admonished me for calling him Odumbo).
I am a "News Junkie" and watch all the major networks and to be honest, MSNBC is the most biased of all of them..They still haven't apologized for editing the George Zimmerman 911 tapes to make him look racist..ABC did and FOX played the whole unedited tape...And the liars are who? I could go on about Rachel Maddow who proves that having a Rhodes Scholarship doesn't make one intelligent, she is just an unpleasant Human Being.(Who also has no love for us or our families).
As was stated previously by someone, Chris Hanson works for NBC..To Catch a Predator ring a bell? Lock up? Caught on Camera, etc....? I have yet to see FOX do anything like that..
Geraldo was once a good investigative journalist..I won't argue that, BUT AGAIN, he went after people like us, Sex Offenders were a staple of his, remember when he stormed into the NAMBLA meeting in the San Francisco Library?(Not saying it was a bad thing)..I was stationed at the Presidio then and it was big news.1990/91? He did as many stories on SO's or suspected SO's as he did on the Nazis...I remember when that Nazi called Geraldo a "Half Jew and Half Spic" and Geraldo decked him...I giggled my ass off.
You know what is really sad? I've never seen such institutional Liberal HATRED for Consevatives as I've seen in the last 5 or so years and like you, I was around in the 60's. Conservatives may disagree strongly with Liberals, but Liberals HATE Conservatives...
Sex offender legislation has been mostly bi-partisan. However, I have noticed these trends. When it comes to infringing on civil rights, such as residency and juvenile registration, it has been largely democrats opposing such bills. When it comes to budgets, it has been republicans. I live in a red state... house, senate, and governor. They won't pay for AWA. They won't spend. They want the registry held down solely to keep it from draining money. Democrats are more for civil rights, and will champion change for the people on the street.
The registry is a political issue. A "Sex offender" is a civil label - a social death. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with CRIME. Until people wake up to this fact, they will not be able to understand us when we chant that it is government OPPRESSION.
Liberal, conservative... civil labels too. LOL. (Just never vote against your own best interest!)
All the hoop-la-la on the news about surveillance should tune the forks. Remember, it is THE CRIMINALS they round up first. That is how oppression grows. Sex offenders are target number one. List number one. Public enemy number one. The evolution of a fifty year neo-eugenics program. - That is my conspiracy theory of the day. :)
