Hey buildinupslow, thanks for the welcome. I have not tried to return to the US as of yet. There's basically nothing for me left there in CA, sold my car, most of my possessions, and rented. I left in 2007, and VERY reluctant to go back. I've never encountered problems here in Asia yet, during my travels, and so far none living here in the PH, at least as being an American SO is concerned.

That MAY change in 2015, or thereabouts, it depends on what changes CA RSOL can bring about. Hopefully soon, I'll be off the registry. Hope that helps!

You say the mainland, no problems with visa, and what about your passport, do you renew it where?
I know most are for 10 years so would you do it there?

I always liked Hong Kong, use to travel there on business, also the mainland, but it has been years since I have been there, just wanted to know your experience. one other question, did you have to tell your county in CA you were leaving?

Hey buildingupslow, when I lived in HK, I had to exit the country to have my passport stamped. I went to Macau once on the ferry, and once to Shenzhen. I had to apply for a 3 day visa at the Chinese Consulate in HK. Now, I'm doing this as an American, right? Okay, pay attention. On the form, it asks, have you ever been convicted of a crime? I figure, tell the truth, they can find out anyway, better to be honest. Okay, so this, from he stories they drill into us about 'Big, Bad, China' I sweated for 3 days waiting. Well, I got the visa, fine, no interest in my sordid American past.

The point is, this was big COMMUNIST China, caring less. Now, how about the difference in how we, as Americans, are treated in our OWN country, home of the free? Makes you think..

Correct I guess on the passport. I received my with no problem in 2005, in Santa Rosa. So, it's up in 2015. I can do it from the US Embassy here in Manila (PH). And yes, I 'de-registered' in Santa Rosa with the SRPD before I moved, didn't want to appear to have 'absconded', at least that's what they were calling it. Like to go back just to attend the RSOL National conference in LA in CA, but I'll sit this one out I guess.

welcome dave . my husband is on registry here in tenn . hopefully this coming march in dc will help the registry restrictions be lifted off and prayers for freedom will be returned to our families . MAKES me wonder why tenn dont have no rehabilitative certificate program .I hate tenn :(
