I guess it was inevitable that federal prisons would bulge at the seams much in the same manner that state prison systems have. It was only a matter of time.

Not to worry, they will build more prisons. The money train in the form of federal funds will show up right on time to save the day---at least until the next prison crisis. This country has never missed an opportunity to lock someone up.

And yet, they are still sentencing people to years and years of federal prison time for just looking---just looking---at a few naughty pictures of an underage person.

This nation will never learn. I just can't believe we are so damn stupid.

This country runs on inflammatory propaganda and buzzwords; people don't stop to research or think, INCLUDING our elected representatives. They tell us what we want to hear and we're so happy to hear it we don't look beneath the surface for hidden agendas. Then we're SURPRISED when things fall apart later.

The subject of America having the highest prison population in the entire world is starting to come to light more and more. I heard Jon Stewart say it on the Daily Show. I think if people started writing their congressmen to ask the USSC to consider just punishment (what they are charged with doing) for first time non violent offenders with something other than jail time. If they did that, then the states would soon follow.

I think a lot about laws directly related to SO crimes are so out of whack. A guy beats his child to death and he gets 18 years, which he will serve a little over 15 and most likely 5 years of supervised release for around a 20 year sentencing. Persons possessing child pornography get around 5 years and will server a little over 4 years with 15 years supervised release which is around 19 years of punishment. How crazy is that?
