As most of you are aware, the stiff sentences handed down for CP related crimes have come under scrutiny by many federal judges who believe the punishment is too harsh.
The United States Sentencing Commission has been toying with the idea of making the punishment for some CP crimes less severe.
Here is an article that gives everyone hope that some judges are beginning to use that downward sentencing trend regardless what the prosecutor wanted.
I especially took note of this quote by the judge, " The judge said that after Collins' trial, he polled jurors on what they thought was an appropriate sentence. The average recommendation was 14 months," Gwin said.
BTW, this was a federal prosecution.

Each image carries a charge and the more images, the greater the sentencing scheme. A single image may not net much time but a hundred would get you a lengthy sentence. Compounding that fact is a single video could comprise itself of multiple images (even digital video is a collection of images strung together to form a "moving image" just like old film or a flipbook. Thus, it is possible for a single video to be treated as multiple images.
Hence, a CP viewer/ downloader can get a hundred charges/ convictions and thus get a longer sentence, whereas a person who committed a single rape or act of abuse may get a long sentence but it is still a single charge. Does that make sense?
