What? What on earth is the point of this law???

and there are people who say that we don't live in a police state in this country.....

As one commentator wrote, we have all been tracked one way or another and predominately by our social security numbers. And I suppose technically, one might say this prohibits everyone in Missouri and the other states also not in compliance, from voting in national elections. Now wouldn't that be the kick in the butt.

After I posted the thread I got to thinking that maybe this has a shining star in the dark clouds, because this affects everyone and not just one class. When airlines start loosing money and corporations can't send their executives out of state, and politicians can't get free vacations from lobbyists then they will care

So what are these requirements that the states have not complied with?

The documentation to prove identity, which, according to the news article, then requires the state to place a special symbol (I think a star) on the upper right hand corner of the drivers license. And yes, I know the comparison between the star Hitler required on Jews and the Dept of Homeland Security requiring a star or other symbol on the drivers license.

The biggest contributor to all this intrusion by our government----wiretaps, violations of the Fourth Amendment regarding searches and seizures, IDs and licenses, etc.,----has been the citizens themselves.

After 9/11, the "bedwetters", the people who were scared of their own shadow, demanded protection from the terrorists by the government-----and this is what they received.

In short, we became the "Nanny State" with the all powerful government as Big Brother.

At a time when nations are fighting for some freedom and individual rights, we could not wait to give up some of our freedom and civil rights after 9/11. Our brave men and women as soldiers shed their own blood to protect our freedoms; now we are just giving those freedoms up. Pretty amazing, really.

Bin Laden's attack on the Twin Towers was not nearly as successful as the attack was on this nation's psyche. He made us a nation of fear instead of a nation of hope.

We really have no one to blame but ourselves. We gave up a lot of our freedoms and watered down our Constitutional rights for a small promise of security.

The Patriot Act and branches of the government such as Homeland Security, along with expanded powers of the FBI, CIA, ICE---and all the other three letter acronyms---have poisoned the freedom of this country.

Now that the Genie is out of the bottle and we have created a Frankenstein monster in the form of our all intrusive government, people don't know what to do or how all this happened.

Two centuries ago, a French philosopher said, "In a democarcy we get the government we deserve."

@ rewdiazepam: The thing that gets me is how, for example, Missouri lawmakers believe they are entitled to simply refuse to comply with the Real ID Act because they don't like the law. To me, unless and until one gets federal lawmakers to repeal or amend the law then Missouri lawmakers need to be examples not exceptions in obeying laws.

Insofar as Missouri citizens that complain, my response is that its a case of one having to be careful about what they wish for because they just might get it. Hence, they got what they demanded -- the federal government stepping in take extraordinary (key word here) measures to protect Americans from terrorist. Now that they got what they wanted they want to gripe about it -- go figure

I agree REW - the biggest group responsible for the crap in our country right now is US - the Sheeple of the United States....

My Arkansas drivers license will expire in two months. I have been told at the revenue office Tuesday that the new licenses will be $40.00 and will be valid for 8 years. Is Arkansas on the compliance list for the RealID requirements and if nobody knows here, where can I find this out?
