ThoughtAsWeak could tell you for sure. I think she told me that she has had the same problem with her daughter wanting to visit her father. Of course, her daughter was the victim. But ThoughtAsWeak would know for sure.

If you find any success, please PM me if you succeed in getting contact visits.
A well prepared visit even if it begins "through glass" might progress to more and for a child to see that someone they love is alive, not held in a torture dungeon etc even if behind glass and in spite of everything still cares about their child and their family is important in and of itself, in or out of prison...You'll find a lot of help available (and if your therapist is reluctant to help, maybe the websites with mothers and kids and "professionals" in favor of visits will help educate your therapist to see things in a better light.. To connect with the fact that there are so many other kids out there with a parent in prison helps children (just like it helps all of us '"grown-ups" to know we are not alone in our loneliness either)
Do they talk on the phone with him? What have you told them if they don't know where he is? I think it's important to think through that aspect...kids need to know that even in worst case situations their parent will tell them as much truth as possible. It makes then be able to trust you in all the other ways they need to trust you.
I think no visit is much worse than "behind glass' and after some preparation I think you would be wise to jump at the chance for your child's sake, for your sake and for his. Just my opinion. Of course you as the parent know your child and so you know best.
You can call the Warden and request that the children be able to have contact visits with their father. He will probably say "no" but it is worth a try.
In his sentencing papers, did the judge mention a no contact order as far as the children are concerned? If so, then there is no point to call the warden, as they will not be permitted contact visits.
As a last resort, you could petition the court and try to persuade the judge to issue a court order that the children could have contact visits with the children, but that is a longshot. Most judges are hesitant to interfere with DOC policy.

OK, so
Murder your wife? still get a conjugal visit with your next significant other ?
Yeh!
Sex Offence? "No conjugal sex for you, you scumbag you! "
Bummer.
So everyone should be eligible for conjugal visits, no matter how many "pen pals" an inmate has?"
Yeh!
Just saying...my girl friend looked forward to their visits, time to talk, eat, laugh and enjoy each other even in those sterile little trailers where the tiny little paring knife were chained down to the kitchen counter and all those "officer check ins" and all the other rules...she still said it was better than visiting room visits.
