This judge NEVER gives a minimum....usually gives the maximum in these crimes (just the opposite for theft, embezzling, etc). She made several statements at the time this happened making excuses about "the good he's done" and "stresses of the job" but she has no leniency for anyone with any other circumstances.

These types of situations in which a member of LE receives leniency is more understandable when we realize and come to terms that the police and other members of law enforcement are not objective or "guardians of justice" but in reality a member of the prosecution team.

I always have to put forth a disclaimer when I talk about the members of LE who are corrupt and unfair. The cop on the beat, the guy who is part of the community, is usually a decent person just trying to do his job and put food on the table for his family. The goons are the detectives and those in the upper echelon of law enforcement; these people are never good news for defendants, even if the defendant is innocent. These are the ones responsible for most of the LE related injustices we see in our justice system.

Cops are not objective, and they don't play fair with the accused. We see them taking advantage of naive defendants---some of whom are very young men who know nothing about the system----to the extent that confessions are extracted even from the innocent. I would imagine the police detectives pat each other on the back and high five each other when they trick a naive defendant into a statement that they can somehow twist and turn into a confession. People who do this are not good people.

Prosecutors know this and they want to keep the police on their side. They want to be "law enforcement friendly" so they can depend on the police to tailor their testimony in a trial to ensure a conviction. Sometimes it is out and out perjury on the part of LE and sometimes they fudge on a few facts of the case, but at any rate, the prosecution knows they need the testimony of LE to be in their favor to continue to win convictions.

How many people in LE are ever charged for perjury in a criminal trial?? Almost zero. They are protected by the prosecution since the DA knows he will need their testimony in the future.

So, DAs are hesitant to seek prison time or long sentences for police officers. They will often either not charge them all with a crime or plea the crime down to the extent that the punishment is nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

People who still cling to the belief that LE will be fair in an investigation are either naive or just plain ignorant and have no idea how the system really works.

After all, how many times do you see the police testify for the defense??

There use to be a time, long ago, when I sincerely respected LE and others in government. Over time, my view significantly changed to the point that I have lost that respect. Some of this comes from what I see that others experience; some from what my ward has experienced, and some from what I have experienced.

If I have learned anything these past six years it is that there is no shortage of those in government who will turn blind eyes to protect their own kind, that obtaining any identity of justice is pretty much a waste of time in official channels like courts and internal investigations.

It's really disgusting that we have reached a point in our times that one cannot and never should ever, ever, ever trust a cop.
