That's a legal ruling that stinks.
I looked back for this thread because I meant to post something on it. I hope others will feel like they can post their stories here, too.
While they were digging for evidence he had a disagreement with his daugter and she told her mom to go back to the police because suddenly she remembered him getting on top of her and having sex with her.
A few months later she denied that and said it was only oral sex...... she cant get it straight and the system doesnt care!
With this said now its time to tell you who i am. What i do. Where i work. Not the specifics. I am a police officer. Been on the force for 23 years. I arrest people who do this. I hate the people who commit crimes. I loathe those who take advantage of women or children. I despise the dredge of society. Until now. I never thought i could love someone who was or is a sex offender. It took this situation to see the other side. It took this to have compassion for those who commit crimes and their families who support them.
I always thought that if someone hurt my children as bad as my daughters boyfriend did, i would easily take him out. If this happened to her i would have fought to get him behind bars forever. But i advocated for him. I wrote to the judge as a character witness for him.
So as you all think about your situations please keep mine in mind.
my daughter was arrested in an FBI sting for CP. she has 9 1/2yrs left to go in prison. she does not understand or have any idea why she did it. and needless to say, neither do i.
like westdenali, i too was on the other side in my feelings about sex offenders. and to tell the truth i never, ever gave it or them a thought, except that i was glad that they were caught. and i never gave a thought to all the collateral damage that is done to everyone and everything that is associated with someone who has been arrested and convicted of an SOL.
and never did i realize that even after prison and probation the punishment goes on and on. and because of the registry, for some, it goes on until the day they take their last breath. i guess maybe even then, in some cases, the punishment goes on after they are gone because of the family left behind.
We were fortunate that his case didn't go federal although the DA tried to make it federal. He ended up getting a suspended sentence(5yrs all suspended but 1) which he did at the county jail and 5 yrs probation, which will be completed on Jan 9th, 2017.
