No. thankfully. But I am a crazya$$ and I think I have that reputation around town (at least with certain people) so, they generally cross the street.
This town has a LOOOOOONG memory, and I once was pretty heavy into the occult . ..NOT Satanism but Celtic magick as well as traditional PA Dutch pow-wow. Most of my friends were Wiccan or practiced other pagan beliefs (some still do)
Anywho, alot of people used to cross the street if w came by, some still do. Come to think of it, it got worse after some idiot asked me if I did human sacrifice. I said, "no..but if I start, you'll be the first to know" Lol!
Sometimes, it's a good thing to live in a small town

We have had several incidents just in the last year, all related to my son and my husband's registry listings. We have been through quite a bit, eviction, harassment, death treats....

Cherokee, how did/do you deal with the incidents above? Do you have a "home" now?

Well Family, to begin with, we live in a tiny little town in South Carolina and our eviction from our home of 4 years was supported by a local judge. Our dear friend that lived next to us owned both homes and let us live there both because we agreed to fix the house up and also help her out when she needed it. She understood our circumstance and had no issue with my husband and son being on the registry. She was disabled and raising her grandchildren. We spent those 4 years helping her with that. She passed away on March 26th of this year. Her daughter, (mother of the above mentioned children) took over the houses and wasted no time in looking up the registry by address and was appalled that her mother had allowed "those people" to live next door to her children. In the 4 years that we lived there, she came to visit her children twice. I also have to add that she spent one of those visits trying to get my husband into bed with her and was told to knock it off cause he was married, by her own son. I am the one who took them shopping, picked them up from school when they were sick, went to their school programs, etc. But nothing counted except the registry listings. The judge gave us 10 days to find a place and move all of our possessions. We had a friend who knew a friend who had a house, so we did get a roof over our heads in the allotted time. Shortly after moving in there, my husband made the mistake of drinking and then walking to the store a couple blocks away, on his way home he made the mistake of waving at a police car on his way across the street to our house. They stopped and ran a warrant check and did not arrest him. They did however, return later and voiced accusations of failure to register the new address, very loudly on our front porch, well within earshot of neighbors who were sitting on their porches at the time. I (all 4ft 11 in of me) got up in their faces and told them they better just check their records because we took care of it and it was showing as the correct address on the registry listings. They left, but the damage was done. The very next day one of our neighbors marched right up on our front porch and got nose to nose with my husband telling him if he or our "pervert" son even looked at someone in his family he would kill both of them on the spot. We began looking for somewhere else to live. We now live in a beautiful home in the country thanks to friends who know us and love us for who we are. It almost sounds like a fairy tale doesn't it? I just believe that everything happens for a reason and God brought us through all we have been through, to the kind of home that we have always dreamed of, and finally some peace in our lives. I am not saying our lives will be simple forever, but it is nice just to bask in the tranquility of it for now. Sorry if this seems so long winded, but once I started I couldn't stop.

A friend of our daughter and her husband, took it upon himself to post my husbands registry listing ON FACEBOOK, complete with a detailed description of what the legal terms of my husbands crime were, and his knowledge of the "facts" that "he had to have done it, because they had enough evidence to convict him in a court of law." Because of the fact that this person was also on our friend list and that of many of our friends and relatives, it showed on the news feeds around the world. The night following its appearance on facebook, a car raced by our house and a dark figure leaned out and screamed, "We'll burn that house down with you in it you f***ing perverts. We filed harassment charges and took them to court. The same judge who told us we had a case and that no one in his jurisdiction should have to fear for their lives, ruled that the registry was a matter of public record. This person tearfully told the judge that he had been molested as a 5 year-old child and that he felt he had the right to warn everyone when he knew of someone who was a danger to their children. The judge ruled in their favor stating that he found no evidence of harassment. This same "tearful" fellow and his wife laughed all the way down the courthouse steps and to their car, with the wife posting from her cell phone onto facebook how they won cause "the judge must have had a bias against sex offenders too!"

Oh Cherokee, I am so sorry that happened to you and your family. I wonder what the judge would think if he saw her post? Shame on the judge and the haters! It makes me sooo angry! Maybe we could all write to the judge?? It's just all so unfair and frustrating, and scary.

Now THAT'S a story (and stories like them) that need to be forwarded to Anderson Cooper. He's been on the suicide bullying story of a gay 14 yr old (and rightly so). But he and the rest of the media ignore the horror of the bullying that the children of SO's (and their families) experience on a daily basis. Your story illustrates the hate on the highest level. I suggest you send it on to him. Yes, in all probability the show will shelve such a polemic, but they need to be made more aware that there are hundreds of thousand of children that are being singled out and terrorized. I believe if the moms en mass were to raise the roof on the fact that their very children are receiving death threats, then more will be aired.

Obviously this extends to ALL family members, but they (the media) maintains children bullying as a main focus.

Just a thought.

Grindstone, I think that is a very good idea! Even if nothing comes of it, it will have been told. Maybe someone, somewhere will take notice.

I agree with you, we ALL need to make our stories public, most of us have a lot to gain and nothing to lose from it, as no one knows what is going on unless we tell them. There's no maybe. I would find who his publicist is as well. Write a compelling letter (including the story, verbatim, above) challenging him to ignore what is going on, to wit:

"Anderson, is it possible you can stress the bullying issue, but maintain it as selective; shutting the door on the children and families in question hence sending the message that they (we) are socially irrelevant? Can you read this account, look in the mirror, and staff it out for the shredder? I would like to believe the self-response would be a resounding...NO. Surely you cannot turn a deaf ear and blind eye and still get a good night's sleep. There are hundreds of thousands of Moms and millions of children who are being terrorized; some, like the poor gay teen who took his own life, have opted to end theirs as well. Anderson, do they not matter...not count? Is this too hot a subject for you? Too incendiary...radio-active, even? If so, then this is truly a sad moment for us all." You talk about "Keeping them honest," isn't it about time the honesty hit on this problem?"

Gives you an idea. Can send to all talking heads and network execs. Editors and publishers. It's all right before you.

Great idea! I say, go for it... And then the fear sets in. Will there be more judgement , more condemnation?
Will they just say we are irrelevant? we don't matter. I'm telling Cherokee to do something I am afraid to do myself. Even though I know it's the right thing. I live my life in fear and I don't know how to stop.

Broken, fear, righteous fear, is a big part of our lives, but there comes a time when fear turns to anger for what they are putting us and our loved ones through by their ignorance of what our lives are like. How can we expect them to know, and do something about it if we never tell them? Sure, there will be those who will continue to ignore the obvious and remain "holier than thou" but there are people out there who DO have common sense and intelligence that WILL understand. I am seeing more and more of those type of people as I spend everyday on my computer commenting on news stories about sex offenders to tell OUR side of the story. I do this as a member of the RSOL minutemen and have seen a lot of changes in peoples attitudes toward sex offenders.

They won't TELL you you are irrelevant. they would just shelve it till it got more potent a wave. Those folks in the medial back rooms know this is brewing, but its of such polemic nature (polarizing)...verboten...controversial, that they've yet to take such steps en mass, if at all. Should you not allow them such luxury as to let it go away. .then it wont go away for them. That is the nature of copying the heavyweights of media on the same letter, making certain it finds its way to social media and the blogosphere. And all letters need not have names attached (although a plus). The fact that citizens fear for their lives as not to sign a simple letter is another boiling story in itself.

Fear is ok, broken; as it gives us the opportunity to run right by it.
