Being the family of a newly convicted RSO I have found how dangerous and damaging the registry is. Why would anyone willingly want that info, the info of their employer, posted?! For me, I already feel a huge bulls eye on my back due to the extreme news coverage we experienced.
Our family member won't be out for some time, but I can't imagine having that info out there. It just makes that person more of a target. I am all for helping other RSO's, but I don't think publicizing their work location does anyone any favors. That just scares me.
Speaking from the experience as a family member, soon to be 4 months in, we are still targeted occasionally. And thing is, he's been in jail since his arrest and will eventually go straight to prison once sentenced. For the most part, our neighborhood has returned to it's normal state. We still live with a bit of apprehension and fear, but we have to live our lives. We did nothing wrong and refused to be persecuted for just being family. People need to move on. If they start listing the work address alongside home addresses, this is just cruel and unusual punishment in my eyes and should not be legal.
Its ridiculous as what is better than having a job, a reason to get up in the morning to feel valued to help an ex offender back on the right path? There's been a lot in the media recently about hiring ex offenders in the work place as a restaurant has opened in England called The Klink. It employs people who have served a custodial sentence and built up skills in prison. Its very popular with a second one being opens due to massive waiting list to book a table. I think its a brilliant idea yet when asked most companies said they no, they wouldn't hire an offender.
