This is the main reason you see very little political will for a DUI registry. I know that a few states have them, but they are scarce----and I doubt that any of them have a public registry.

I am not attempting to equate sex offenses with a DUI arrest, but I am trying to place everything in context.
Too many politicians, ex-politicians, and their families would suffer if there was a DUI registry. Even though a DUI registry makes more sense than a sex offender registry, politicians will be hard pressed to support it.
Nope, the registries are for those "nasty old sex offenders" who solicit young females on the Internet, who by the way, are only cops posing as females. Or for the young man who either mistakenly or foolishly downloadeds a few naughty images of naked children. Now THOSE are the dangerous people in society--the people guilty of non-contact and non violent crimes---- not a person who gets under the wheel intoxicated, trying to maneuver a 4,000 pound car like some kind of metal "guided missle" that could easily kill or maim a young child or person for life.
People who drive while intoxicated kill and injure far more children than the registry ever will.
Yep, we have to keep those "perverted monsters" called sex offenders on the registry for life. No need to take any chances, you know.
We classify even the guy who downloads one image. He is labeled the three p's----pervert, pedophile, and predator by a public who does not even understand the registry and has no idea of the disease called pedophilia. The three p's are sort of like an unholy trinity to a lifelong situation of disenfranchisement to all offenders.
Nothing in life is black and white, although many short sighted individuals like to think that way; life is only shades of gray.
Life is nothing but taking a series of events and being able to put those events in perspective.
No, we reserve all the registries for the poor people who have no clout and who do not have thirty or forty thousand dollars to offer as a bribe.
Nobody I know or have ever spoken to criticizes punishment for those that break the law, even sex crimes. But, as I said, an intelligent nation filled with well informed citizens, should be able to put things in perspective. The punishment should fit the crime.
Unfortunately, this country has been unable to do that. Why is that? Because the registry is just a political football used by politicians to garner votes at re-election time.
Common sense was lost in this country long ago.

While we are on the subject of protecting children, why don't we get an drug abuse registry?
It is all money, politic, and how they want to use public emotion to win the election.
What if it saves one child, isn't it worth it?
We deserve to know the people who negligently ruin the lives of so many every year.
Drunk drivers have no rights, they lost them the minute they got behind the wheel drunk.
We aren't punishing drunk drivers, we are just doing it for administrative purposes.
