My boys do have a few other friends whose houses they go to, but the kids don't come over here. Those parents, I have felt the need to spill the whole tale to. My oldest is 18 anyway.
Altho' my SIL took it upon herself to try and 'warn" my sons' friend's parents
The one told my SIL to get lost, she was just a trouble maker.
The other parents were of my youngest son's girlfriend. They insisted she break up with him...my SIL did it deliberately cos her son liked the same girl.
That's okay though, cos it was pointed out (and the court records where show, by oldest who printed them off) to those parents that my SIL's oldest son will be on the registry when he gets out jail cos he was messing around with a 12 yr old when he was 22. Suffice it to say, the girl wasn't allowed to go out with her youngest son either.
Gotta love my idiot in-laws...without them, my life might actually be somewhat normal sigh.....
You and your family would be better served to be honest and upfront with the neighbors who have children that might become friends with your daughters.
First, people respect honesty. They may not like to hear your story, but the fact that you were honest with them shows the respect you have for your neighbors. And they ARE your neighbors and you HAVE to live with them---and it is best if you can have a decent relationship with them.
Secondly, if your story comes from your mouth, you will have control of the facts and how the story is told. No, don't lie, but you can mention that this incident happened in 1990 when your guy was 18 years old. If they hear your husband's story from someone else----maybe even the neighborhood gossip---you can bet that the story will be embellished in the worst way and full of inaccuracies. Better for them to hear it from your lips than from someone else.
Trust me, at some point they will find out anyway, so it is not a case that if you never say a word they will never find out. We live in the digital age and there are no secrets.
People don't like surprises. If your daughters and their daughters become friends and they then find out about your husband's charges, they will not be very happy.
If you are honest and respectful with your neighbors, it will be much easier in the future and it will create a more positive image of your husband in their mind.
SOs are judged as much for how they act as their past crimes. If you show you are a good neighbor, they will not see your husband as the "neighborhood sex offender", but as an 18 year old who made a stupid mistake.
