I believe that each state uses its own criteria to determine if a registrant appears on the public web site.

In some states, offenders with less serious sex offenses do not appear on the public site. Some offenders in lower tiers might not be included on the public site.

Someone from California can come alone and give you more specific information about that state.

absolutely. That is the purpose of the sex offender law. as far as i know if you are labeled you are listed.

There are states where Level 1's are not on the internet, but they are kept track of by law enforcement.

Another issue is private groups can also put your information on the Internet even if the state is not going to. It is completely legal for them to do. The only thing that is stopping people from doing this for most people is having to dig through all the records and separating out the registrants who are already not ok the Internet.

I know that in New York and New Jersey law enforcement doesn't put you on the public registry if you are a tier 1 (or level 1) offender. You still have to register with the police but you won't be put on their public registry. Like Independent said, private groups can put your information on sites that don't belong to law enforcement. I know that if someone wants to find out if someone is on the registry as a tier 1 they would have to go to the police station with more than just a name (ex. an address, license plate number...) but in this day and age its easier to just pay for a background check online and they can find out. I know they used to do it through the police station so they would have a record of who got the information just in case someone wanted to attack the SO.

Oklahoma classifies its registrants according to the crime committed and nothing else.

The tier levels were enacted in 2007. Tier 1 has to register every year for 10 years, tier 2 twice a year for I think 15 or 25 years, and tier 3 every 90 days for life.

Most of the crimes are labeled tier 3 crimes.
