Your son will not be the same person as he was when he went in to prison.
After 10 years in a prison environment, dealing with the isolation and the unpleasant environment, his view of the world will most likely be different than your view.
He will have aged 10 years. If he went in as a young man, he may have matured and grown up. I saw a lot of young men come in to prison as immature, but they grew up and turned out to be fine, decent citizens. If he went in as an older person, he will have learned a lot about life and even more importantly, a lot about himself that he never knew before.
He will be scared. If he tells you any differently, he is not being truthful. He will be unsure of himself. He may make mistakes, so expect things to not go perfectly at all times. The world has been passing him by for 10 years so the world as he knew no longer exists.
And, Sandra, for you there will be challenges. Having patience with him---within reason---and giving him support is essential at this time.
You both will do fine if you take it slow and do not try to look too far into the future and worry about things that may never happen.
I wish you well. I am so glad that you have your son back and I am happy for him that he can now go on to live the rest of his life.
May God bless you both,
rewdiazepam
