Not religious, but not "anti religious" either.
There was a quote I remember, I'm not sure who said it,
The only thing wrong with religion is the people.
I live by that.
I live in Utah and although I have to deal with those "Holier than thou", most will still say "hi" at the least and many will stop and "BS" for a minute.
It's not the church, it's the people.
"Judge not, lest ye shall be judged".

I go to a non-denominational and my church family has been amazing! They've been supportive of me as well as my husband.

I go to a small baptist church out in the middle of nowhere, and we didn't start going till after my husband was charged and we were both saved. Not everyone knows our situation, but everyone that does know has been the most support we've ever had through all of this. As a matter of fact, when I told the pastor about it all (my husband's PO said that she had to talk to him in order for my husband to attend church once his probation starts), he said that when my husband was saved, his sins were washed away, therefore there will be no judgement. His friend and boss is the one who brought us there, and we are so thankful.

I have turned against churches. I don't need a church to live my life as a christian. Our son was the chaplin clerk in prison. After he was released we called five churches to ask if he would be welcome to attend. Not one responded.
As far as I'm concerned churches have become all about money and politics.
It's so very sad.

I have to say I love my church. It is a very large church, but after my husband was convicted a friend incouraged us to go with her family. We did and the rest is history. They have supported us over the last 3 years. Spiritually and on some ocassions financially. We have been very lucky. When they see us they do not shy away. My husband attends a support group there for men with additon to pornography and they have been amazing. This is a christian church and never have we been treated diffrent.

This is almost the saddest responses to questions yet. The place sinners should be able to go to for comfort and solace is the most judgemental and condeming of all. (sigh) It makes you wonder if organized relegion is really the right thing,

I go to a non-denomination church, a biker church...and pretty sure my son would be welcome there. He is pretty anti-religion right now but I pray in the future, he will come back to God. He was raised in church, saved as a child...so he will come back, just a matter of when. My pastor, and founding members of the church are hardcore bikers, and they know everyone has a past. They dont judge-they look at the future and love those that come thru the door.

I attend a Pentecostal church (Assemblies of God) that is quite big (you can get lost in the crowd very easily). I have been going to that church almost my entire life (moved to this area when I was five and started attending this church shortly afterwards). I have many who have been very supportive. The church is very big on showing God's love to EVERYONE. They have a wonderful prison ministries and also a Celebrate Recovery (bible based AA group) that deals with every addiction including porn (which led to my husbands crime).

I have many who are praying for him and/or join me in supporting him at every court appearance. None have been judgemental - which has been very helpful for my family and I.

I am also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My church is wonderful. The members have not past judgement against my husband or our family. We have just had support and love which is what we need. I honestly don't know how I would have made it through this ordeal without the support and love of my church. I know if you ask someone about our church that is a member in your area you too would be loved, supported and not judged. Isn't that how Jesus would have treated you? I am so grateful for my church. i am also like sheri and belong to the church of jesus chirst of latter day saints and i will have to correct her on one thing about judgement there are those who are members of are church that jugdes and then there are those who do not judge this goes for all faiths no matter what relgion your in people will judge you either in a postive way or a negative way i believe that you should only let certin people know about your past because you don't know how people will respond to you,sometime ago i was at a bbq and asked the first counsler in my ward about how can someone who has been kicked out of the church for a crime he commited sometime ago and he said he had to pray and work on repentense then he also said that there where certin felons who could attend church but they could not sit in with the congergation i knew he was talking about ex offenders i wanted to say something but at the sametime i wanted to keep my mouth shut not to cause any conflict so even our church sometimes will shun those on the registery i believe it all depends on the person and how they react not everyone is the same some will accept you some will not it all depends on where you go,and lady bird your pastor should not be a pastor at all he needs to go back to his bible and read about judgement and judging others he more then likely will change his tone

Nathan: I think my pastor is really shaken up by all this. He is very worried about the whole church, and how this will affect a major ministry we have. At least one family has left, and another is talking of leaving. He is a man who sometimes overreacts. I do not agree with how some things have been handled either, but we are all messed up by this. Funny, but things like this are a chance to see what's in a person's heart, or what they REALLY believe. Like when my grandson threw up once, and I was able to see every unchewed peice of lunch (sorry if this is too visual). Very revealing. I love my son, I love my family, I even still love those who've not reacted right in my church. I will do what is right, according to the Bible, no matter what anyone else says or does, by God's grace. You are absolutely 100% right about people just being people, no matter who they are or what denomination they are. I've not reacted the best either. I need to be more gracious and patient with those who are hurting from this. I've "put on the face" when I'm around them, but my heart is another matter. Forgiveness needs to be extended in every direction, as someone else here very kindly reminded me (during one of my rants).

I am not a Christian so not a church member, but my son was before his "offense."

His pastor was supportive right up until he took the plea bargain, then said he felt as if he'd been "misled" and withdrew his support.

I've seen too much of that kind of thing to expect any different, but my son was a member of that church from the time he was a small child, and it hurt him badly.

in my area there are 12 churches. only 2 accepts sex offenders, and 3 allows them only if they have a babysitter along.

i've noticed that churches have been becoming erm... hypocritical, <---not putting down Christianity; putting down churches, which are created by man; not by God.
