As I have learned, sometimes we are so focused on the major things that we forget about the smaller details that can actually have significant importance.
The guy whom I am guardian of was scheduled to be released from prison on February 4, 2015, yet, through a clerical error of the jail, his new release date is next month instead. The error occurred because jail officials did not give him the proper amount time credit for the time he served in jail.
He was suppose to get 210 days credit towards his prison sentence, for the time he was in jail waiting for his sex case to be done and over with, but he only got 3 days credit instead.
Now that said, he is far from being out of the woods because he is still at risk of being pursued for civil commitment so while his release next month is good news in itself as this nightmare will finely end, it does not mean he will come home. But I wanted to remind everyone to check the paperwork.

Every person convicted has a Judgment and Sentence document, sometimes referred to as a J&S. It spells out the exact sentence and the statute under which the defendant was sentenced.
We always called it a J&S in Oklahoma and I am sure it is referred to in other states by the same name or something similar.
It is probably one of the most important documents a convicted person can have. It spells out in detail the nature of the sentence.

You can get a copy from the Court Clerk of the county from which your guy was convicted.
