Changing the registry ?

Its like they had to go back 65 years to bunch us all together to justify changing the registry by showing the public how many sex offenders are running around as they also made up a stories that 85% will reoffend again. They call it public safety, but the truth is that most of the registrants had been monitor already by the police who was using the registry already since 1947. How many of us are 65 years without any other crime but the one that put you on the registry or even 50 or 40, 30,20,10. I would like to know how many people would be on the registry if they did not go back so far in time? Would this small number of registrants not of justified the money spend to illegality change the law from 1947 that said

In the 52 years since, the other forty-nine states have also passed legislation that requires released sex offenders to register with local law enforcement in the area in which they establish residence [2]. Until 1996, the information contained in California's registry (and others) was available only to law enforcement agencies. The concern was that the public release of such information might violate the offender's right to privacy and to live without fear.

yes retroactive application is wonderful for me, my crime was so long ago, I lost every thing as you all. This is my point how can any one on any registry have a chance to have a noram life. If I get off the registry my fight will continue to show its punitive to all registrants. This new law is punitive to all not just me and others like me that had jobs, homes, family, friends, and hopes. I believe we have to show its so punitive and that no one on any registry will ever be able to obtain what I and others have done in life. This will and has to stop so we can start having a stable life, for me agian and for other to start. I want to use my life to show that after 30 years I lost every thing because of being placed on this Web Site. How is this person getting out of jail that should be given a chance to change" isn't", Why even let them out of prison and why not just ex post facto my butt back to prison because if my life got any wrost ... just say I am tried. If the return rate now is only 3% it will increase as we have no hope. This law if it continues will not protect society but case great harm and I wish the people that know the truth are the ones who get hurt and not society. How can a person not know how punitive this law is my God we are sleeping in trash, under bridges, and told every day you are no better then a ----- ------ ! go off and die. The Public Registry is wrong and cops should not show up at my door so I don't trust it with local law enforcement either. The only crime with less recidivism is murder.

hey lifegoeswrong don't fell bad it's happend to me before i've had posts come up more then twice my self and i also believe that the only people that should have access is the courts and law certin law enforcement i've had my window busted out of my house because of it and couldn't do a thing because there was snow and the cops couldn't get a finger print i think the registery should not be made to the public either sense people use it for a witch hunt and i fell like that anyone who uses it as so should be charged with a felony and not with a misdominor and should be charged to the fullest extent of the law

Nathan those people should be charged with a crime. I am against the public registry...i just thought adding where they had to have your social would be better than nothing....but that is not going to happen. Best bet is to voice your frustrations to law makers. What i would like to do away with is once you have completed probation you no longer have to register! No more of this lifetime registration/ punishment.

I think that it has been said that these laws are made from an emotional response verses a logical one. Starting with the original one in 1947 - has there ever been a study done to see if a registry (of any type) is effective? We have seen statistics on most of the current SOs are first time offenders and that the recidivism rate is low. I have never seen a study to show (or not show) the effectiveness of a registry. Just as a by product the registries are very expensive to initiate and maintain, which means they are generally outdated at best, inaccurate at worst.

Look at every high profile case where a "registered" sex offender committed a heinous crime - show me ONE (besides the Edenfield case) where the person was actually registered where they were actually living. I can think of NONE.

Don't even get me started - I could go on for weeks.

I have a friend that is in the same boat I am in his crime was 1979 and the police arrested a person who actual broke into his house to kill him This person is now in prison charged with the intend to cause great bodily with a weapon on 3 other counts. He attacked 3 other offenders with in a week, these 3 guys are lucky this person was not stronger then them because they would be dead today.

THIS IS MY POINT THIS NEW REGISTRY IS PUNITIVE NOT FOR EX POST FACTO BUT ALL AND IF IT TAKES EX POST FACTO TO SHOW THE PUBLIC ITS PUNITIVE. THIS GOOD, THIS WOULD BE A GOOD START WHICH IS WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY. i WANT TO FIGHT AND BE USED WITH OTHERS THAT HAVE 10 YEARS OR MORE WITH NO OTHER CRIMES TO PUSH THE POINT.
