The hatred and mass ignorance of some of the citizens in this country knows no bounds and the lack of common sense when it comes to sex crimes is an epidemic in nature.
Besides, many people in this country hate pedophiles just because they are pedophiles. They would probably never allow them to be treated with dolls. They want them all in prison or dead----not treated.
Treatment would show a touch of humanity; we can't have that here.
Sorry to be cynical, but it is the truth.

I any event, it is a very interesting article and I do agree with the commentator that it is a subject that needs to be researched. Personally, I believe that if dolls, porn, and what not is going to prevent someone from actually committing a sex crime against another person, then I am all for it, as it's the lessor of the evils I suppose, and so far, nothing else is working to stop the issues.
Heterosexual
Homosexual
Bisexual
Pedophilia
Transgender etc., etc.
What do these have in common? They are all sexual affiliations and preferences that most people will tell you they knew about themselves from a very young age. Years ago people used to believe that gay men were child molesters - we now know that was preposterous thinking but it was the common belief. The same holds true for pedophiles - we do not understand their sexual affiliation because it is foreign to most of us but it does not make them molesters. In fact, most molesters (contact crimes) are NOT pedophiles. CP viewers are not automatically pedophiles.
One of the reasons the misuse of the word pedophiles bugs me is because until the media, politicians, the general public, and yes even forum members stop using the word interchangeably with anyone convicted of a sexual crime we will never get anywhere ... even psychologists on TV use the word incorrectly!! Although everyone would like to think that it is a mental illness of some sort it isn't .... anymore than heterosexual is a mental illness.
This is why you will hear the quote that sex offenders "cannot be cured" - years a go a psychologist wrote that pedophiles cannot be cured and there you go. He was correct - pedophilia cannot be "cured" - there is nothing to be cured of ....
I could go on and on but I won't (did I hear a collective sigh of relief?) lol But I hope this makes sense?
Sex offender does not equal pedophilia and just becasue the media and everyone else uses the word that way does not make it correct ....
As I understand it, the difficulty for pedophiles is that, since they are basically attracted only to young people who are pre-pubescent / have not yet developed secondary sexual characteristics (breasts, body hair, deep voice etc) the same children are also too young to be able to legally give informed consent to engaging in sex with a pedophile (or any one else).
Since the object of a pedophile's attraction is a child not legally able to consent (and by the time the child has grown older and might be able to consent the child is no longer a child. They have developed physical characteristics which make them (now) not attractive to a person who is only sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children. For someone only able to have arousal with prepubescent children It's a very complicated catch-22. Whether the "attraction"/ release can be transferred/ achieved by watching child porn or focusing on a baby doll made in Japan is problematic. Some countries allow sex with child brides, or call it Man-boy love, but it is still an attraction that is illegal to physically act out in most countries because of the immaturity of the 'object of attraction' And in those countries (like Thailand for example, the illegality itself becomes an opportunity for buying children from impoverished parents and sex-trafficking them or using them as 'dancers' to take financial advantage of sexual fetishes/ proclivities)
For an adult to actually engage in sex ( involving penetration) with a small child often physically damages the child due to the disparity in size. Apart from the obvious dangers of such physical disparity, the disparity in emotional and sexual maturity also traumatizes a child who has not yet had opportunity to independently develop the mental and emotional maturity to understand/ explore their own innate sexual preferences and choose a compatible partner at a later stage. As I said, for a pedophile, it becomes a very complicated catch-22.
For others, (not pedophiles) whose sexual attractions are less specifically focused, it seems to me it is more about power than about sex (certainly not about love) Any risky sexual behavior that demonstrates dominance (rape, child sexual abuse with either sex, adultery ) becomes the turn on and the ability to over-power by trickery such as Bill Cosby's pills, by grooming both the child and the adult/s who should protect, by imposing their own parental power upon a child, by marital betrayal, incest or outright physical force (no more Mr. Nice guy) I believe it is the repeated and continuing exercise of force/ power that proves to be the 'aphrodisiac' for such 'offenders.'
In those cases it's true, " rape (of every sort) isn't about sex, it's about power." My father got off on risky sex and he didn't 'fit' any little category. He was a sexual omnivore who loved the risks involved and loved the idea that he could smile, live a middle class life, groom everyone including his children and "get away with" doing it right under people's noses, commit incest and adultery and rape, talk his way into and out of anything. He saw taking sex as the demonstration of his rightful (male) prerogative, The power to "get away with it" somehow proved his manhood.
Prison rape is only a brutal example of this sort of power dynamic in which sex does not play the central part but is a side benefit and a demonstration of the power to do what ever they want to do with another human being (where the non-consensual element becomes central to enjoyment) Other people love money and get off on financial trickery and make millions while others serve long prison sentences for armed robbery.
No, "Sex offender does not equal pedophilia and just because the media and everyone else uses the word that way does not make it correct ..." the list you provide is far more nuanced in their attraction to power than mere list of labels .
