It always irritated me that other inmates feel like they are the judge, jury, and executioner and they have the right to pounce on another inmate because of his charges. You would think that since many of them probably got a bad deal from the criminal justice system and they know how unreliable it is that they would be willing to leave others alone or give him the benefit of the doubt.
I always looked at it this way-----a crime is a crime is a crime. I did not care what anyone's charges were as I had no idea about their case or what happened. They may be innocent or the charges may not be a reasonable description of the true events that transpired. I did not care because all of us inmates were in there together and we needed to try to get along.
I knew I was not there to pass judgment on others. I was there to find a way to get released and go home ASAP. I did not have the time for any of the foolishness that your son has suffered.
But they don't, and that is probably one of the reasons they---the other inmates----are in prison in the first place-----no social skills, no communication skills, and a selfish attitude.
He was lucky he was only bruised up. I have seen them do things much worse to sex offenders. That was probably a scare tactic and a message that they did not want a sex offender around and he needed to get off the yard.
But he is still at Tracy, and soon he will be sent to a SNY yard there in California. He will be safe there for sure.
When he went to the hole for his own safety, that is called "catching out" and he will be looked down at because of that also. But it does not matter, as he will be headed to an SNY after reception is over and will never meet these crazy inmates again.
He probably won't be able to leave the hole and go out into the general population at Tracy, as he has even more of a target on his back than before---since he sought protection.
His saving grace is that he is in California with the SNY yards. We did get him set up to go to one of those yards----prisons----didn't we? I thought I helped you send an email to the classifications people in the California prison system and they assured you that he would be housed at a SNY yard.
Sorry to hear this, but this is not unusual at a medium security prison if they find out right off that an inmate is a sex offender.
I will send you a PM in a few minutes.
Hang in there. We WILL get him through this.

SNY prisons or SNY yards---Sensitive Needs Yards---- are special prisons in California that are set up to house offenders that might be vulnerable being placed in the general population-----such as snitches, sex offenders, or gang drop outs.
California usually designates either an entire prison or sections off a portion of another prison as a place for these guys so they can do their time in a relatively safe manner.
California is the only state that I know that actually has a name for these prisons, but other states do use this same concept for sex offenders, but on a lower scale than California. The federal system also has a few prisons where the majority of inmates housed there are sex offenders or inmates who would be vulnerable in the general population.
These SNY prison are not as restrictive as PC---protective custody----and serving time at an SNY is much like serving time at a normal prison. The inmates there are not there for disciplinary reasons so they have all the privileges that an inmate at a regular prison would have.
SNYs are not foolproof, as now some former gang members---gang dropouts----there try to run an extortion game on some of the other inmates, but it is much safer than a regular prison.
The strength of a SNY comes from the fact that all the inmates in there are in the same boat---vulnerable if place in the general population. This fact cuts down on the threats and physical violence you would normally see in a prison.
Hope this helps.
