I'm not trying to make an accusation here or anything, but ANYONE can join this forum. And groups have had the occasional problem with people who were agent provocateurs or outright spies. It is too easy to pass as one of us while being on the other side of the fence.
Then there are those who are simply too willing to compromise with our opposition to the point where we give up some of our principles. Worse yet, those willing to concede our cause to "experts" not really looking out for us. Just keep that in mind. Not necessarily accusing anyone of stirring the pot, but sometimes I have to question the loyalty of some people to our cause.
I Iam on for a high misdemeanor I have noticed quite a few others on this board also with misdemeanors or tier one offenders so either your not paying attention or your not able to realize this.
Human Rights Watch said 1/3rd of the registry is kids and the 2010 Department of Justice said the fastest growing crime is CP and the biggest producers is kids.
It's obvious to many of us that very minor crimes can get you on the registry and many of these stories end up in the news. I find it odd you agree with Val who's answer to RSO's is killing them! I would think you would be slightly more offended with someone that wants to kill you! If you are on the registry! Call me stupid but I don't like people that want to murder me! It's kinda funny her stance because her solution would actually be a worse crime than most of the people on this forum.
I will not find the good in a person like Hitler because I don't want to! Nor will I help Val in any way to carry her message.
As far as numbers of who lands on the list for what, there is no way to determine that, in part because "official charges" don't tell the story. As I explained elsewhere, a 19 year old who has sex with a 17 year old in states where the AoC is 18 is classified the same way as a forcible rapist. A person who pisses behind a dumpster is classified the same as someone who flashed children. I guess you're too busy trying to valigate your opinion to think about what you actually propagate.
Yes, if all those people were taken off the registry (and the Romeo and Juliets) it might not make a huge dent but it would still be a positive.
Basically, our laws need an overhaul and they need to make sense. I read that some state made it that kidnapping
Anyway...that kidnapping is now a "sex offense" even if no act was done. The issue raised was that in some cases if an abused parent takes a child to a friend's house to hide while trying to get necessary PFAs and whatnot and the other parent finds said child at that house the friend could get slapped with a kidnapping charge and then also end up a sex offender.
Now, will this be a common thing? I hope not... but should it be an issue at all? Definitely not! It just showcases the lack of forethought our lawmakers have. And how far we've strayed from " the worst of the worst"
I see both sides. But the mommys in my mommys groups both online and in person usually agree peering in public is different. And if you point out these 'red herring' crimes like peeing or Romeo Juliet they will tell you they read the registry and dismiss those people as threats. They focus on the CP and other crimes.
I think we should point out the stupidity of the registry for including those crimes but we need to focus on making people understand that crimes like CP are not a sign of being a lifelong predator. That CP isn't what it was 30 years ago and computers have made it something that needs to be reexamined.
Other non violent crimes are also not signs of lifelong predators.
When I meet a person willing to listen about reform they will agree we should remove public urination and Romeo and Juliet's. Does that help most of us? No. We need people to look deeper than that.
I understand what Independent is saying although I in no way support Val.
She knows him from working on committees with him.
Even he agreed he is willing to talk about reform for some crimes. But it is those crimes that no one takes seriously anyway.
I want someone to talk about reforming for CP and for other 'tier 1' crimes. We need that dialogue.
How do we get it? Maybe the first step is to remove the 'petty' crimes? I don't know.
Reform is only happening in states because some judges are starting to see things different and selling we are all dangerous is not only not true it's irresponsible. Many crimes are now considered registrable offenses that have nothing to do with sex and juveniles don't belong on a registry for having a high school girlfriend and the big civil rights and human rights groups see this.
Slavery lasted a very long time and it was wrong and if they argued but some of us deserve it wouldn't help! The registry is evil and promotes discrimination that often continues for a lifetime! I just saw on a TV show called 48 hours a guy shot a guy six times and said he didn't mean it and he got 8 years for negligent homicide and then he's free to live his life. Meanwhile I'm going on two decades for my high misdemeanor and my neighbors have to be told I'm potentially dangerous and my employer even has to be verified and listed. What boss wants to also be on the registry?
The worst of the worst are not on the registry and that's a fact! Lots of kids and that's a fact and selling everyone is dangerous is not a good idea!
