The same thing happened to me when it went public with my husband. I, however, did tell most of the people I knew prior to it being released. A lot of people have been supportive who know us personally which I am thankful for but there are several who have not been. I have lost friends that I thought were my best friends because of the situation. I have chosen to stay low and just work and not go out unless it is to the store. Trust me I don't like not living 'normally'. It's hard because you always think when someone looks you in the eyes they know or are judging you, but remember that this will come to an end. Thank you for your message. My husband's best friend is a deputy sheriff. His friend is heart broken because he can no longer have any contact with my husband. They've been friends for years. I haven't told my husband yet. I don't want to upset him. There are still family members I haven't said anything to. I know it will pass with time. For now I just want to runaway.

I'm not sure of the circumstance of your story, but I can certainly relate. My bf was charged with possession and distribution of CP. When his arrest first happened though, the police tried to say that it was him and our infant son in an explicit video together. However, after multiple people saw still images of the video we all confirmed it wasn't him nor our son. Yet, the newspapers and news stations still felt the need to portray him as being IN the video. They post our address in the paper and wrote that 'he lived with a woman and child closely matching the description of the child in the video'. Never interviewed myself or the police to know that it was confirmed he wasn't in the video, nor is that what he was charged with.
I live in a small town, and let me tell you the people here went crazy. People sent me terrible messages on social media, made threats to me when I had nothing to do with any of it. My family and close friends have been very supportive and that has helped, but situations like this really show you who your friends are. Some people haven't made comments outright to me, but you can tell when someone starts acting differently towards you. Family members are often treated as the criminals also, sad but that's how people are these days. All I can tell you is that, it will get easier with time. I know the meaning now of the saying 'take it one day at a time'. It has been about a month and a half now, and things are getting better. Message me if you'd like to talk any time. What boggles the mind is how they justify labelling you too? You did not commit the crime. And as you left him after finding out, they can't even make convoluted arguments about you condoning it by staying. Just... how. Hold your head high.
