I doubt it. There are all color of people on the registry. And it doesn't have to be someone who was accused of sexual assault on children. Women could cry rape, prostitutes are being charged, there are all kind of ways people could be labeled a sex offender.

You never see the media rallying often behind a person of color that is the victim of a sex crime. The emotions regarding hate towards sex offenders is the same way of thinking as racism though. It feels like genocide to me because if a person can't work easily or have shelter easily the outcome usually will be death.

Genocide is a form of racism that doesn't have to be because of race. I think @LegalGuardian feels this way because logic and rationality goes out the window talking to normally sane people regarding sex offenders. I read of a sex offender that was a hundred years old and everyone was afraid of him.

The prosecutor that prosecuted the ten year old boy as a sex offender said... I would do it again! It would seem to me that most sane people would have doubts about a ten year old or a hundred year old man. How tough and dangerous can a ten year old or a hundred year old man actually be?

Sanity escapes people regarding the sex offender issue. Most people don't even grasp the sex offender registry is becoming genocidal and many kids are dying for Romeo and Juliet crimes because of a very high rate of suicide among the very young.

The more one studies the sex offender registry the more one really gets confused! It just doesn't make much sense.

There was prejudice against a lot of groups according to skin color. This is a different kind of witch hunt.

There is prejudice against the class of Registered Citizens. So much more, I believe, than against any other class of people.
Society has to have a group they can feel superior to, today it's against registered citizens.

Keep in mind that their motto in creating sex offender laws is to "protect the children" and yet, it is not a motto that is evenly and equally applied.

If it is anything it is about financial status more than anything. If you have enough money to fight tooth and nail the charges along with enough political influence you will never be on the registry or see the inside of a prison.

Well, money has always been an issue in the fight for justice and the poor do not receive the same justice as the rich, but in this regard, I think do not think sex offender laws are created to attack a specific economical class of citizens.

Rather, they seem to be more racially motivated because of the disparate treatment given under the motto of "protect the children" that politicians are not zealous to address gangs, gang violence, and drug use that is dominate in African American communities with registries and civil commitment.

Again, the core argument being is that if you are going to enact a law on the premise that we have to all we can to "protect the children" then the validity of the argument must be proven not by creating laws for those committing sex crimes, but also those harming children in all other areas as well.

If it was truly about protecting the children, then it wouldn't matter how much money you could spend on an attorney. With all things it usually boils down to the 'the money'. To get more money for campaigns they need to pass laws that their financiers are willing to support too. To garner more clout in their elected office they need to remain in office long enough to get one of those committee chair jobs. When it comes to investigating, prosecuting and incarcerating, they need money to do that too. Which comes from contributions from the State and the politicians that were elected.

It is more complicated than that simple explanation but the cycle is vicious and perpetual it seems. From my understanding that there are more white middle class middle aged men on the registry than there is of any other color or age group, granted the age thing will change as everyone gets older...

I agree when it comes to protecting the children if they are going to do it then it needs to be more than just sex offenses... but how far are you willing to barge into a family home to make sure everyone is being treated 'legally'? Homosapiens are two things if they are nothing else, they are opportunists and they are not nice, this applies to the most hardened criminal all the way through to the nicest person on earth... The basics never really change about the species homosapien.

I don't understand why you think it would be race related. Most of the people that I've been in contact have been Caucasian. If you can't afford a lawyer then this crime is for you.. and I think our government knows that. I'd say its more for the poor than against a person of color.

If talking about high profile cases with resulting laws, Legal is pretty much correct. Name one "Apostrophe" Law (Megan, Dru, Jessica, Chelsea, etc) named for a non-white child.

Only certain children count. Proof:

That's not proof. Why are we trying to turn this into a black and white thing? I , for one, find it offensive. I know there are some people here, as in the rest of the world, who are racist... but do we need to bring it here? There were a hand of white children that laws were named after. That proves nothing. yes the prison system has been made up to , in prison the black man for life. Just like my mans case from 96 It's pimping and pandering out of lasvegas life time registry . They robbed us had no case made us make a deal with the devil no jail time and a life time of checking in with penalties for not checking in now. for the same pimp cases in 2013 they wanna kill a black man( most pimps are black )in the electric chair life sentence no parole. First of all the sex offender 'industry', as I like to call it, is not aimed at any race, color or creed. This is not a racial issue and the more people try to make it one the less credibility it has. The race card is dealt far too much in this day and age. What people don't realize is that those in power are aiming at those that are too poor and too uneducated to defend themselves. They don't really care if you are purple in color, black, brown or white.

This is not the place to start up a racial discussion that is certainly starting here. The sex offender plight is not targeting any black or white man, it is targeting MEN in general, regardless of color. I am not saying that there aren't any racially based issues in this country, but in this topic it is more likely that it will be a poor or middle class white man or boy to get hammered by the SO laws than it will be any other colored man or boy. They will be targeted for other reasons and other crimes.

So the racial discussion over this is over or this thread will disappear.

Keep in mind that I am white, so I am not playing some race card here, and the question was legitimate to ask and discuss in both legal and philological realms. If you want to delete this thread then do so but don't threaten to so because you do not like the diversity of answers.

When we become afraid to challenge our belief systems, and accept that others have different opinions than our own when race is involved, then we cheat ourselves and those whom we care about and want to help from having better.
