This paper implies that such sex workers as escorts or young people working in the pornography industry should have protections and rights. In several places, it hinted that these situations should not be prosecuted or criminalized.
I agree. I don't understand what right the government has to tell people what they can do with their bodies as long as it is not harming others and does not involve children. If they would make escorting----nice word for prostitution----legal, they could tax it and regulate it as an industry. Women working the streets would not be in fear of being arrested and it should benefit everyone involved.
Ditto with the pornography industry. Young women or men should have the right to pursue work in this area without repercussions from our government. I would not particularly want my daughter in this industry, but when she is 18 years old, she should have the right to do with her body as she sees fit.
One reason this country is in such terrible shape is that we try to legislate morality. It becomes an even bigger problem when one group decides what is moral or right for everyone and attempts to impose their views on others by supporting legislation which will affect everyone. Within reason, what might be moral to me would not necessarily be moral to everyone.
I still believe in the rule of law and it is obviously wrong to rob a bank or physically assault some. Ditto for writing hot checks or driving while drinking, but too many of our laws are driving by one's moral views and not common sense.
Our government has a terrible habit of telling us what is good for us and not allowing us to make that decision ourselves.
People will invariably say, "Oh, my God. Prostitution legal? That is so wrong and we cannot have that in society."
Why not? We keep electing DAs who have this strange propensity and have no problems convicting innocent men or giving a young man a long prison sentence for a minor crime. Most people seem pretty forgiving when a DA does that, as he keeps getting re-elected.
We continue to elect politicians who support laws that do not serve this country well. Hell, we have admitted war criminals on the Sunday talk shows, as I listened to one just the other day. Even though he ordered water boarding, a war crime----and is proud of it----he is happily gallivanting freely around the country giving his opinion on foreign policy.
The politicians and the DAs can do this and get away with it as they are doing their dirty work behind the guise of a suit and a tie. The women who work in these industries are usually just common folk and as usual, they don't seem to count for anything.
I know I risk fluffing some feathers here, and everyone I suppose has their idea of morality, but trying to legislate morality just does not work. I say make it legal and let everyone believe the way they want.
We need to stop allowing the government telling us what is and is not moral.

I jokingly thought about it but my lady friend said I would get assassinated within one week.
Besides politics is such a nasty business and I don't think I could stand to rub elbows with such hypocrites.
Best to stay alive to help others. ha ha
