a friend of mine is wanting information on how adhd may affect a polygraph test...he heard rumor that they can not polygraph a person with adhd and wants to know if this is true...anyone have anything I can share with him on this? his p.o. told him if he passes he can get internet access but they keep coming back inconclusive. would love to see him back on the boards.

Jackie, good to see you back here on the boards.

A PO can certainly have a polygraph administred to someont with ADHD. In fact, a PO has a great amount of power and latitude to do just about anything he or she wants---except violate the probationer's civil rights or defy a court order.

The problem is that the probationer has no real recourse if he feels it is unfair that he was mandated to take the test even if he is ADHD. Since a polygraph only measures responses such as respiration, heart rate, and such factors, I do not think any drugs being taken for ADHD would affect the test. After all, they use a baseline in the test.

That being said, I have heard that some anti-anxiety drugs such as Xanax or Valium can sometimes affect the results i.e. help one pass the test.

I have read some research that it may be more difficult for an person suffering from ADHD to pass a polygraph test because they sometimes have difficulty concentrating.

Your friend might go to this link and get some more information about the problem. I have browsed the site and I think it is a little flakey at times, but there is some good advice there. They also have a message board where he might submit his specific question and get some help there.

thanks rew...sent an email to them will see if i get any response. my friend is not on meds since he has no way to afford them. so with that in mind wonder if it could be the reason they can not get a clear reading on his tests. don't know if anyone is interested or has this problem as well but will post the response i get (if i get one) in case it can help anyone else out there.

cool book out that has a chapter on how to beat a polygraph test- a leagal template for any one to use with out a lawyer to file a $100.000 lawsuit against the polygraph company- get the test deleted.
