Since some posters here have been falsely convicted, I thought this story might be interesting.

What is so sad is that even with a recantation, it is very difficult to get a false conviction overturned without some incontrovertible evidence such as DNA. Prosecutors do not have the courage to admit they made a mistake even if it means an innocent man remains in prison.

This hurts my heart. I'm so torn between not wanting to increase the pain for true victims, but at the same time I wish "she said" didn't carry more weight than actual evidence.

You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but how and when do you stop being angry with the people/agencies who caused your suffering? I'm past the active, vicious, daily anger but if I saw any of the people involved in our situation about to be run over by a bus I doubt I'd say a word of warning.

OneofThem, I wanted to send you a message, but I'm not permitted to do so. The story reported here is similar to my man's circumstances, but he was court martialed over a "she said" case, also with no true evidence. Have you, or anyone you know, ever successfully warred against the military machine?

The really horrible truth is that for every one of these stories we hear there are hundreds maybe thousands more

My hubby was falsely accused by his daughter (my step) and it was her word only. She was 13, and claimed the abuse happened when she was 8,9 or 10 (she couldn't remember)
I was angry at her for a long time. I now see it as, she was still a child, manipulated and controlled by her aunt and uncle for their own gain...THEY are the real culprits, and she was just a pawn, a means to an end, basically a victim.
And I hate to say this, but some prosecutors just don't care. The DA against my hubby said she didn't care whether he was innocent or guilty, she just wanted a conviction on a case with so little evidence, because it'd be good for her career.
I can guarentee you that if my step-daughter came forward publicly and recanted to the DA, she'd be threatened with jail time or ignored.
