That's great, but he should have gotten the same sentence of 25 years, the same that the poor guy got. 10 days in jail, and 500 community hours when an innocent person lost so much of his life? Unbelievable.

Regarding situations like this, I think it helps people to understand when they realize we have a LEGAL system, not a JUSTICE system.

Our legal system is merely an adversarial system which pits the state or government against the defense. Whichever side can present their case in the best manner will win the case. Because of this showmanship between attorneys, sometimes the innocent get convicted and the guilty go free.

Guilt or innocence really does not play into it.

Yes, Advocate, it certainly does suck especially given the fact that the person who plays the adversarial role on the defendant's side is a public defender.

While there certainly are good public defenders, the sad fact is that most of them are underpaid and overworked to the point that they cannot possibly give the time and effort needed to defend anyone.

The result is that the defendant goes into the fight with a pocket knife while the DA has an AK-47. Who do you think wins most of those fights? It cannot possibly be a fair fight just by the nature of the system as it is set up now.
