DON’T YOU BELIEVE ONE DAMN WORD THE POLICE TELL YOU REGARDING THIS SITUATION. THE POLICE ARE NOT HUMANITARIANS AND THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN GETTING THE YOUNG MAN HELP.
The police do one thing and they do it well-----they arrest people. Often they lie to people to get them to talk and then arrest them for something they said.
There are only three groups of people the police ever want to speak with----victims of a crime, witnesses to a crime, and suspects of a crime. If a person is not a witness and is not a crime victim, you can bet your last paycheck that they look at him as a suspect.
The “We just want to get him help” is a ruse to put a person at ease so he will talk. ANYTHING HE SAYS WILL BE USED AGAINST HIM TO MAKE HIM LOOK GUILTY. HE MAY SAY SOMETHING INNOCUOUS AND THEY WILL TWIST AND TURN HIS INNOCENT STATEMENT INTO A CONFESSION OR USE IT AGAINST HIM TO CHARGE HIM WITH A CRIME.
These cops do not give a damn about this 12 year old child.
Rose, tell the mother to let law enforcement know that she does not want them talking to him without the parent first. A child can legally be questioned without a parent present, but the parent must be notified if he is taken into custody.
Instruct your grandchild to never, never, never, never talk to the police. They are not his friends.
You said, “They are telling his mother they won’t put him in juvenile detention just want to get him help. I really don’t know what to believe.”
I don’t usually use this kind of language but this is a bunch of bull shit---to the max. The cops are trying to get enough evidence or a confession to charge this 12 year old with a crime. This just makes me so angry my blood pressure just spiked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They said that “they don’t want him in detention?”
That is just more malarkey to get the young man to talk. The truth is that the police are not the deciders if and when the 12 year old will be placed in detention. They have nothing to do with it; the judge is the final arbiter, not a bunch of cops.
They use the same technique on adults when they say, “If you help us out, we will put a good word in for you with the DA and he may make this easier for you.”
That is nonsense. DAs don’t listen to people in law enforcement as far as the punishment and law enforcement will never put a good word in to the DA anyway.
Contact his mother ASAP and get this straightened out. The best thing that she could do if they are questioning him about molesting a couple of girls is to retain a competent criminal defense attorney, but I realize they are expensive. So instruct the 12 year old to zip it up.
Tell him and all your grandkids that if a cop wants to talk to them, they should keep their mouths shut and immediately call their mom or dad.
Cops are the most prolific liars on the planet Earth.

To add to my recent post above: I cannot tell you how many offenders----even innocent offenders--- I have helped over the years who have "talked" their way into a confession or prison.
Cops are masters at getting people to talk and then using something they said against them to send them away.

So they basically abuse him in a way, take advantage of his lack of understanding of his Constitutional rights, and pull what they will call a “confession” out of him.
In this country, we have the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This is a constitutional right. The Fifth Amendment is there for a reason. Use your Fifth Amendment right and do not talk to the police.
One problem people have is that they hate to say “no” to the police, so they start talking. All anyone has to do if the cops come to your front door or they want to talk is say the following----“I WILL NOT TALK WITHOUT MY ATTORNEY PRESENT.” That is all you have to say and then ZIP IT UP.
They will try every trick in the book to make you talk, but just shake your head “no”. And be steadfast in that refusal.

Don't trust anyone. Talk to him yourself. I think you'll be able to tell if anything bad happened or not.
Don't trust anyone in the justice system!
