What does lockdown mean? Can he call out? Can he get letters? I called and they said the jail my guy is in is in lockdown. I haven't heard from him all week. I'm getting paranoid and scared... Anyone? What can he do during lockdown? How do I find out if he has any privilidges?
Sometimes lockdowns happen just because of some inmate unrest such as a fist fight or someone was beaten up. The officers would go into each cell and examine our knuckles as when you made a fist. Knuckles which were torn up or bruised usually meant more investigation.
Or it could just be because of something as harmless of a heating problem. One time, the heat went out and they locked everyone down until it was fixed. We were locked down for a week.
In a lockdown, everyone is locked in their cells. Nobody gets out. No showers, no phone calls, no commissary, nothing. They will deliver you your mail and if the lockdown is more than several days, they will pick up your letters to mail if you have any.
They will either bring your food to you in your cell (usually a nasty sandwich and a glass of lukewarm tea) or they will march everyone down to the chow hall in small groups. Then you go right back to the cell to sit.
It is a good time to sleep, write letters, or watch TV. There is nothing else to do. Nobody enters or leaves your cell.
No phone calls in a lockdown and no privileges except mail. This is why you have not heard from your guy.
