She has learned how to make makeup through strange ways, like using M & M's, and has learned who her friends are and aren't.
In her case, her family/ husband and kids have pretty much abandoned her. But she has taken classes and therapy on how to cope with what happened to get her there, and how to get out and live on her own for the first time in years.
She says it has made her stronger.

She has learned to deal with what she did, and helps others, which makes her time go faster.
She wrote in the beginning about the way things work in that prison. How the woman act, etc. None of it was violent though. Just people trying to run things a bit, but it isn't as crazy as you see on tv.
