We all know the extent of the problem with prisons in this country, particularly the overcrowding problem. After all, we live it every day.
I found this animated graphic which will let you see just HOW bad the problem has become over the years. Words sometimes do not convey the extent of the problem, but this surely does.

But Louisiana, my home state in Oklahoma, and states like Mississippi have no hope of correcting their overcrowding any time soon. They are the "axis of evil" when it comes to incarcerating its citizens.
.The prison system has become so politicized in those states---actually in any Bible Belt state---that reform will be very slow.
About half way down the page, you will find a bar graph. It is entitled "U S Incarceration Rate Ranking, Highest to Lowest."
The first eleven states---with the highest incarceration rates--- are in the Bible Belt. I know Arizona is not usually considered in the Bible Belt, but it is a southern state.
Many people over at the "Families of Sex Offenders" forum have asked where the best state is for sex offenders to live and I always tell them to stay away from the Bible Belt states. Now you see why.
