As mothers, wives, girlfriends, and family members of our young men and women who are incarcerated, we love and support them.

One means of support for both the inmate and the family is keeping in touch via telephones. Communication is important as it keeps the inmate close to his family and makes his re-entry and any rehabilitation easier.

Unfortunately, companies have profited off the misfortunes of others by running a scam with the telephones in prisons.

This is completely disgraceful, but as I have said many times, there are too many people and too many corporations making too much money off prisons for anyone to have any incentive to stop this madness.

It is absolutely ridiculous how much they charge. Not to mention the costs the prisoners pay for the food they purchase with the money. It is a complete scam. The food they serve In these prison systems are pathetic. They rarely serve real meat . They chose to keep my boyfriend in prison till 2017 on a technical violation. Our prisons re going broke but you will keep a non violent prisoner that long on a technical violation with no new charges. smh

Hey, I just finished reading the same article! What a coincidence!
It's horrible, and they should be ashamed of making money off people's misfortune. But there are some a..holes that think prisoners should have no rights at all. There's this one idiot who keeps commenting on a FB page I visit for cheap calls (by the way, great company, would recommend for anyone looking to save, prisonconnect.co), and he keeps bashing us. I don't know why I get so upset, but I do. And here I am - can't sleep, reading about all these things, makes me feel even worse. There's so much hate out there.

By the way, if any of you are looking to save on phone calls - my hubby and I use it, and it's ben saving us - it's prisonconnect.co - they have a free trial period, 3 months, and then it's only 1 cent the first month, and then 4.99 a month. They gave me a local number, my hubby calls that and we don't pay the long distance. Then we have to pay all the other bs fees and taxes, but at least we don't get ripped off for long distance.

Always check that the prison will let you use that service before you sine up for it.....they can get a bit funny about these things.

suchaslife I agree because I was going to do one and it would end up costing us more because some reason they will still charge by the minute or something my husband told me.

I guess I am lucky that the calls are not so much. There is a monthly fee, and each 30 min call is fifty cents. However a friend of mine claims each 30 min call costs eight to fifteen dollars depending on which person she she talking to.
We dont have the JPay here, I can put money on commissary via money order. Seems inmates have their own form of currency GreenDot cards. Which has a purchase fee of 4.95 regardless of the amount you put on the card.

I know it never teach them, but really it is cheaper to do things the right way. Taking short cuts never pays off, but still people do it, and they get in trouble...

I fou the best thing and cheapest was ot get a cell phone with a local number to the prison. I pay the $30 a month for the cell phone and then he pays .98 per call. This was the cheapest i could find for me and my husband. So far it has worked very well except fot a lost call here and there.

I also signed up for Prison Connect - they gave me a local phone number, where my son's at, and his call goes through to my cell phone, and it's been working for us. I have another 3 months free for this service, because I was also one of the first to sign up - thanks for the tip - and my son pays through his commissary, like a local call. I heard though that if you have someone in state, you still have to sign-up with the company that officially providers service to the prison or jail, but even with that this service we have can save you money, because you pay local instead of long-distance. But I didn't know about the time limits - everything is still new to me, and can't get used to many things - I don't know if it's the same for other prisons.

I just got an ad on my FB feed, for this service, Prison Call Deals, and checked out the website http://prisoncalldeals.com
they list providers and prices, and compare.
I found it useful, I guess they just started, but looks like it could be good, to compare what people say about services and providers.
I'm also with Prison Connect, and it's working for use.

@concallhome this is a support site not a place where you should be pushing your business on to people who don't have much so you csn make money.
