My guy had a private little room, with a bed, and desk, and most of all privacy. He recently lost his job and the room. He HAS been so crabby and tense all the time now. I would too. His room has 16 guys in it. They are never quiet. He needed that private room to get away from them, and block out the world he lives in. He can't anymore. And gave up doing his hobby. Too hard in a room like he is in now. HATES IT!

I can't imagine what it is like in there. I wouldn't want to know. But sure is hard even talking to him some days now. BUT he calls more, even if he is crabby. Says he never has a good day

That is scary! I know prison isn't a holiday camp but that's horrible. My husbands in PC, a square cell as long as his bunk with tv, sink, kettle and toilet. Its not luxury especially for 2 but heavenly compared to that!

Sigh its still better then what some guys have to put up with hear......some of them are sleeping in hallways, rec rooms and yes they have to pack there beding away when they get up and can't go to bed until everyone in the unit has gone to bed. In some of the cells theres 4 guys when there should be 2-3 max yes they have the same things in there cell that sally mentioned. Its not much fun at all.

I guess we will never really know or understand how they live. Sure they did wrong, but some didn't do something that horrible to be treated so inhumanely. If we imprisoned prisoners of war, we would have to treat them better according to international laws. Even horrible terrorists would still have laws protecting them. Not our people.

THis is what I pictured. My daughter has shelves and is by a wall. she is on the bottom bunch because of health reasons. She has had problems with the top bunk lady. she puts stuff on her shelf and it leaks to onto my daughters shelf. Within their cottage they have 4 dorms like this one. They also have an area where they are permitted to talk with each other. They also have a microwave in that area. Where they wait in line for 2 or so hours to use the microwave. She makes her own food. Sometimes a couple of them will get together and put food together to share.

Where the beds are, like in this picture, they are not permitted to stop and talk with each other for any reason at all. They can get put in the hole for stopping an anothers bunk. My daughter also has a tv, we bought her, attached to her bed. She has a blue back for commissary and a white back for dirty clothes.

My daughter has a personality to where she wants to be around someone all the time. She does not like being alone. So this doesn't bother her. I think it would drive me nuts not having any privacy.

Out side of the cottage, my daughter gets her hair highlighted and cut, she gets a manicure and pedicure. She pays $3 each for mani pedi. she says when you walk into the salon it's like being on the outside. Gives her a little bit of dignity. Even so she cant wait to get home. When she does get home, she will not be going back to the old life. She doesn't have a choice on that. The apartment is gone and the boyfriend has passed away. Seeing these pictures brings reality to life. But still as cushy as she tries to make it sound and with the old life gone, she is doing all she can to get out. she wants to be home. She wants to be free.

My son is in a dorm like that one with 81 other guys. They remind me of chicken houses.

wish I could push like to the comment of this looking like chicken houses. I agree totally. They call the prison my daughter is in a "farm" makes sense now!

As you know Rew, my daughter was arrested and sentenced in OKlahoma for distribution of meth. She was at the Mabel Basset Center for a few months because she failed a urine drug test while awaiting sentencing. Mabel Basset is included in the link you attached. She is in the federal system now. She is in a dorm setting but there are half walls within the unit, There are two bunks per room. They can reach out and touch the other they are that close like you mentioned. There is no door on the room. She has the top bunk and hates it because she has to climb the metal ladder without shoes at bedtime or if she gets up during the night and it hurts her feet. One girl fell out of her top bunk during the night and broke her front teeth. Now my daughter is scared she is going to fall off the bed. I mailed an X-ray report that confirms she has scoliosis and kyphosis but the doctor said this is not on the inclusion list so she can't get a bottom bunk. She said the noise level in the unit is maddening. She wears ear plugs a lot when the noise gets to her. Oh, another thing she said the bed is very close to the overhead fluorescent bulbs. The hum, heat and brightness of the bulbs is very annoying.
Oklahoma desperately needs housing for drug offenders instead of prisons. They do not even have Narcotics anonymous in my daughter's prison. How are all these incarcerated women from OK supposed to find jobs which were already difficult to find now that they are labeled felons. My daughter did not grow up in OK but she was arrested three years after moving there.

Where my bf was, they had 81 guys in one huge room, with half-walls, lights on 24/7, and constant noise. He said it was worse than the solitary cell where he spent a few days while in reception.
It's inhumane...but highly profitable!
