This is just bad for the prisons, bad for the inmates, and bad for the taxpayers; they all suffer. The only ones who benefit are the big businesses that have their hands in our prison system.

Disgusting and shameful and commonplace. The jail where my fiance was for nine months outsourced everything. The nurses were incompetent and uncaring. The doctor was too. My fiance has had Lyme disease and was suffering the symptoms, and they refused to even test him until I told my fiance to tell them that he would be contacting the governor about the lack of medical care. He was tested within a day or so.
The phone was through IC Solutions, a service that charged not only a ridiculous amount per minute, but also $7.95 each time I added funds to his account. There was also a monthly limit to how much Zi could add using my credit card, but after the limit was reached, funds could be added through Western Union- for a fee of $11.00, plus a percentage of the amount added. Commissary was through an ATM type machine in the lobby. Adding cash cost $5.00 per deposit, and credit cards were $7.00 per deposit.
Aramark provided a package service. A less expensive package consisted of 10 packs of ramen noodles, some candy bars, and Crystal Light powdered beverage. This package was about $15.00. More expensive packages had more cheap processed foods and cost as much as $120.00.
It's a racket.

Mine quit taking his med's while in county jail because they were charging him $5 every week to hand him the med's by the nurse that gets a paycheck from the county.

Outsourcing medical care is outrageous. Outsourcing in general is not good. Prison's cut corners and risk lives to make MONEY and don't care about the people they are harming. After all they are prisoner's right? Their lives to them mean nothing. I read awhile ago how prisons were using inmates to experiment on.

Mine was taken in a group to a University hospital in WI. Supposedly because they were over 50 and they all needed these tests. I couldn't believe he agreed to it, but I don't think he had a choice. You have to wonder why they really took them there. They put them through endoscopy's and colonoscopy's. Now why would the prison's take them there at the expense of the state? I think there was more to it. Who knows what drugs they gave them to test out. Mine has been sickly ever since.
