I AM from Oklahoma. I served almost a decade in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections prison system in the 1990’s for a rape I did not commit. I now am an advocate and support person for sex offenders, inmates, and their families.
The Bill Johnson Correctional Center is where Oklahoma has their comprehensive drug rehab program for drug offenders. I was never sent there, but I am well aware of the prison and its program. It has the best drug program in the state of Oklahoma.
They offer a drug program and a RID program----Regimented Inmate Discipline, which is a program sort of like basic training in the armed services. The RID program is a shock program for first time offenders, which allows them to get in and out of prison in a short time.
You said, “Does anyone know how long my son has to wait in Lexington prison until he can get into the bill Johnson's program in alva oaklahoma.”
If he is at Lexington A&R for classification, he will be there anywhere from three weeks to two months. After that period of time he will be sent to his destination prison. If there is an opening at Bill Johnson---BJCC---he will probably be sent there after his classification at Lexington. If there is a waiting list for the drug program at BJCC, it may be a few months before he goes to BJCC. Or they could send him to another minimum security prison in the meantime until there is an opening in the drug program.
Try not to worry. TRUST ME, mama, you have nothing to worry about as far as your son is concerned. He will be at a minimum security prison where there are no violent, long term offenders, so he will be safe; he will be there will men who have committed petty crimes, NOT rapists or murderers. The cat sitting next to me could serve time at a minimum security prison, as nobody ever has problems at such a low security.
The inmates at BJCC----a minimum security prison----will all be short timers (many first timers) with short sentences. They want to go home as soon as possible, so the last thing on their mind is causing any problems, getting a misconduct, and having their release date pushed back up to a year. As a result, they all follow the rules to a “T.”
All the bad guys in any prison system are at medium security prisons. Your son will never see the inside of a medium security prison, I assure you. Mixing first timers and non-violent offenders with hardened convicts is a terrible security risk. If prisons are about anything, they are all about the security of the institution. Your son will never see an inmate convicted of a violent crime.
He won’t get lost in the system. He will be in prison with a LOT of other guys who are scared and unfamiliar with the prison lifestyle, so he will not be alone.
You son has a five year sentence for a drug offense. If he plays his cards right, minds his own business, maintains a job or goes to classes, and does not receive any misconducts, he can be out in a little over two years. Oklahoma is generous with their good time credits for non-violent offenders. He should receive 30 days a month for the physical days served plus up to 44 days a month once he is promoted to level 4---which will take about four months. So once he is on level four, he will receive 74 days good time credits for every 30 days he serves.
Write your son as often as you can; you can often send cards. Assure him that you love him unconditionally and will never leave his side. Right now he is probably bewildered with his new surroundings and maybe a little scared. Anyone who tells you that they are not apprehensive the first time in prison is just lying to you----they all are. Keep your lines of communication open and he will be home soon.
God bless you and your son. If you ever need me to just talk or if your son has a prison problem in Oklahoma, do not hesitate to message me. I am good with prison problems and can usually figure out a solution.
