I am so terribly sorry that our criminal justice system did that to your SIL. If people knew how many innocent inmates are in prison for a sex crime, they would be flabbergasted.
Here is my philosophy and what I have learned over all my years regarding employment for sex offenders-----
Suitable employment will be a definite problem. All the major retailers and stores such as Wal Mart, Burger King, etc., run background checks and when his background check comes in as having been convicted of a sex crime, he will be fired.
The problem is not that felons are all lazy or not qualified for certain jobs, but it is the liability that comes with hiring a felon and especially a sex offender.
The mom and pop shops, places like family owned businesses such as small retail stores, family owned convenience stores, small restaurants, small family owned computer repair businesses, etc., are much more likely to hire him as they do not have to answer to corporate management.
Anything which requires a professional license is out of the question. Physicians, most nurses, pharmacists, and even barbers cannot usually find a job in their chosen profession. I lost my pharmacy license when I was convicted and could never get it back.
If he is able bodied, working for a construction company or some form of manual labor-----including welding----is a good possibility since these companies do not generally care if one of their workers is on the registry nor do they usually run background checks.
His best bet is to go into business for himself. He cannot fire himself because he is a sex offender and there are no pesky job applications to fill out.
People will say, "I don't know how to do anything or anything about business." There are hundreds of ways to make money in this country IF you have the ability to think outside of the box. Some of my suggestions might take a years training at the local vo-tech, but it will pay off in the long run.
Former inmates can become welders. A friend of mine from prison learned welding while in prison in a vo-tech course and now that he is out he is making $25 an hour welding. His boss couldn't care less about a conviction he might have.
Plumbers. I can guarantee you when a person's bathroom has six inches of water on the newly laid vinyl or wooden floor, the owner will not care if a former sex offender comes to the house to fix the leak.
Electricians. A former inmate can get into this field of work.
Landscaping. I have another friend I met in prison who does landscaping work. Actually he does nothing little more than mow lawns, but I tell him he is a "landscaper" and we both laugh as that sounds better. Sort of like calling case managers, counselors. He has now branched into fixing fences, putting up privacy and chain link fences, and seeding lawns. To just start out, anybody can buy a riding lawn mower and mow large lawns.
Construction work is also a possibility. People need people who can perform QUALITY work at fair prices. Nobody wants to work anymore or get their hands dirty, but there is a need for it. Building decks, small add ons to a house, installing siding or rain gutters, installing steel roofs, doing roofing, etc., are all viable ideas. IF he does a good job with reasonable prices, people will hire you, trust me.
I had a new vinyl floor installed in my house a couple of years ago. As I watched the guy putting the floor down, I thought to myself that anyone could learn to do that----even felons and sex offenders. Yet, I had a difficult time getting anyone who wanted to work.
Here is a link to a page that gives the names of companies that hire felons. Of course, sex offenders is a horse of another color, but this might give him a starting point---

More possibilities----
Janitorial work. Some guys have started their own cleaning agencies and clean offices after house.
Driving a truck. There is decent money with cross country truck driving or any truck driving job. Many places will hire a sex offender.
Heavy Equipment Operator. I have registrant friend in Texas who works for such a company. He operates big tractors, backhoes, road graders and other heavy machinery. He learned most of it on the job, but he did attend a nine month course. And he is making very good money.
A felon or a sex offender must not only be willing to get his hands dirty, but willing to work long hours and through the weekends at times. Granted, many of these jobs do not have the prestige as some other jobs, but they pay well, put food on the table, and they put a roof over their family's heads------and that is all that matters.
Hope this helps and gives some people some ideas.

He just never tries to work in places where kids are, and yes, mine was railroaded a long time ago, 20 years, by his ex because he wouldn't sign over his parental rights so her new husband could adopt his kid. So she accused him of molesting her daughter. A out and out lie.
The label is a stumbling block if he don't know where to go, that won't care. It is a problem if we rent and give his name, so I only put any place we live in my name.
There are ways to live with this. It's ugly and hard, but we do live a pretty normal, ok life when he is home. Which he will be in Aug.
I think in this day and age of the witch hung on SO's, so many more people are listed as being one, when in actuality, they did nothing. Some just have vindictive people who know how to really hurt someone forever. If no one hired them it would be worse for everyone. The general population doesn't see that. Do they want them out on the street, angry at the world for accusing them, and convicting them of things they didn't do? And even if they did do something once, and it wasn't that bad, it don't mean it will happen again.
How many young men over 20 years old have been duped by a younger girl online, or out in public. Pretending to be older, dressing older, to get these guys to be with them. Then their parents find out, and get them charged with a sex crime. It's a damn shame that it happens all of the time.
Mine was convicted because he wouldn't give up his son. That makes him a better man than many that just leave their kids, don't pay child support and worse have no interest in being with their kids.
There are so many things they can do as far as work. He just has to find out where to go.
In our states, MN and WI when they get out, they also give them a list of " felon friendly" employers. In Wisconsin they have a thing called " windows to work". A person from the county comes out and gives them classes on how to get jobs after prison, where to look, and works with them getting them into companies for interviews. They also give a 10,000 dollar tax credit to the company if they hire them after a few months that they work there, and that the state actually pays their wages at that company. A great incentive for the employer.
I would check with your state, whatever agency that is, or the department of corrections and see if your state has a program something like that.
These men need to be helped and encouraged so they don't land in prison again, out of sheer hopelessness. And especially so they don't end up homeless.
All he has to do is get a roommate that will rent the place in their name. Unfortunately here they do post the names and addresses of SO's in newspapers and on the tv news shows sometimes. Not always. That can cause problems.
I hate the websites that say DO YOU KNOW WHERE SEX OFFENDER'S LIVE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD? And you can get their name, and address. That could get them killed or hassled a lot. So far we have had no problems.
BUT our neighbor, also a felon and a horrible man, has found out mine is one, and has threatened to cause him problems if he comes back to our home. We want to move before that happens. BUT we are going to warn his PO about this man's threat, and the man has the same PO.
I am sure that he is a good man. Since he isn't with your daughter anymore and you still love and support him. Good for you.
I suppose his race could of definitely played into the whole thing, but mine was white, his so called victim was white... Still turned out the same. And I am NOT prejudiced. If you are a good person, don't matter what color people are.
It is something they have to live with forever. Tonight the girls at work were talking about how they need to hire people, but the boss don 't seem to find anyone suitable. The comment was made that even Sex offenders apply here and we sure don't want them here. OMG I wanted to blow up, but didn't.
Then the assistant manager says we should rent the house that her mom rents out on their property. They are kicking the other tenants out. It's on a farm. BUT then they would find out he is a SO, and I just don't want to deal with those comments, and they have been in this community forever and my guy would be hated, so that won 't work.
Hopefully it will go smoother than you think for your son in law.
So now we all live with it. Whether they did IT or not. I bet more people that are convicted of IT did not do it, than did. It seems like the new witch hunt. And a way for vindictive people to ruin people's lives once they aren't with them, or don 't like them. I hate the whole title. I get in discussions with people who bring it up all of the time, without telling them mine is one.
