We used Interstate compact. It's been 4 years and may not remember everything we did. About 6 months before my son was released he had to get it approved. What state is he trying to move to? And does he have a job, family or housing waiting for him? If he doesn't have any of those then approving a move out of state might not happen. My son was lucky, His supervisor helped him get the paperwork going and approved him. And I moved from Floriduh to PA a year before his release, set up a home for him, and he had a job at our shop waiting for him as well.

He will be moving to CA from LA. Hes sent in a few requests but nothing has came about from it. Ive made a few calls myself trying to get a hold of someone to get information on how to start the process but no one answers. We are confused where he should go and what the steps are. I keep getting told by some that he needs an officer or case worker? He doesn't know where to find this though since hes not receiving replies from anyone.
He qualifies for everything though has a place here in CA and a job already. We just don't know how to start the process in general when were not getting replies.

I don't know what to tell you. As I said, my son was lucky in that one of his supervisors help him push the paperwork. Sometimes those who are in charge of him on the inside just don't like to help out. He has someone in charge of him there, that he should have contact with often and who he goes to for everything on the inside. That's the person you deal with. Calling anyone who doesn't have direct contact with him on almost a daily basis is not going to go out of their way to help you. I'm assuming he's in federal? That's where my son was. you might be able to contact his case worker..what I did was I looked up my ex on inmate search and listed his case worker information.this was when he first went in I did it

I got a hold of someone that deals directly with interstate compact after being transferred from DOC but only got his voicemail:/ Am not assuming he will call back so am having my fiance write to Interstate compact to reach out. It seems from what he is telling me that there is to many people as far as supervisors. its in a prison. He was recently on lock down and just got out a few days ago but they moved him to a different dorm area so I think its a whole new set of guards and supervisors. Would the warden be a choice? Ill ask my fiance:)

Interstate Compact is basically an agreement between states to transfer offenders on some form of supervised release----probation or parole. But it can be used to transfer inmates.

His case manager should be filling out the necessary paperwork for his Interstate Compact transfer. If he does not have a CM, someone is in charge of his “jacket”---records----and they should be responsible for submitting the forms to the receiving prison.

BUT, unless he has a family member in the receiving state---who has established residency in that state----it is very unlikely that the transfer will be approved. And, a fiancé or GF, is not considered a family member. So I am not sure he is even eligible for an Interstate Compact transfer.

Who is eligible to transfer using Interstate Compact----

At the discretion of the sending state, an offender shall be eligible for transfer of supervision to a receiving state under the compact, and the receiving state shall accept transfer, if the offender:

is in substantial compliance with the terms of supervision in the sending state; and

is a resident of the receiving state; or

has resident family in the receiving state who have indicated a willingness and ability to assist as specified in the plan of supervision; and

can obtain employment in the receiving state or has means of support.

Thank you. He finally got an application for this matter. He has his mom he will be living with here in Ca and a job as well as she owns a business and is giving him a position. Were just hoping the answers come back sooner rather than later. Weve been hearing some guys in there are still being held when they were supposed to be released two months ago according to their dates.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not. But I just looked up info about all this recently as my bf wants to do that as well to Texas where his parents are. I googled interstate compact to the state we want and I was able to print a 76 page thing with all kinds of info including some rules. He found the info useful. Although he is not at the point he can apply for it yet, he was just looking for information.
