So I was talking to some people this weekend that work at the Sherrif's office where I live. They were telling me that I should call the Prison where my BF is wich is Delano Ca and talk to someone high up and just kind of explain his situation. Telling them that he is a Non Violent offender that was sentenced to a little over a year for Evading Police. They said to just see if they can release him to like house arrest or lower his time, since he is the bread winner and has a full time job that he just made a really stupid decision at the time.. Since he is just taking up "space" in Prison. I'm sure there is truly NOTHING I can do at this point but I was just going to see what anyone thought? Also if anyone thought hiring a lawyer at this point would be of any help if anything to get him out a little earlier? Thanks in Advance I really think we just have to ride this one out BUT if there is a chance I can help him I will. Thanks so much

There are lots of guys who are doing time for non volent crimes though I will admit just over a year for evading the police is bit hash!
It would not help to call the prison or "someone higher up" as the DOC has no authority to release an inmate early--or keep one longer. They are not a court or a sentencing body.
The DOC only houses inmates that have already been sentenced to a set number of years. The DOC is sort of like the "babysitters" in that they just carry out the court's sentencing orders. They cannot alter a sentence.
The DOC doesn't really care if he is the breadwinner of if his crime was a minor violation, and even if they did, they could do nothing about it.
No, don't spend any of you hard earned money on an attorney. At this point, there is nothing he can do.
He could get out of prison early if he could make parole or he could earn some extra good time credits for taking programs in prison, if they allow that in California. But other than that, his time in prison is more or less fixed and cannot be changed.
He does not have a very long sentence, so just look forward to the day he comes home to you.
