My son was put in a very minimum security part of a prison where it was almost like just an apartment. He got to roam the grounds outside the gate to do yard work, and worked in the staff offices. It's a good way to reintegrate them back into normal things. To get them used to being out in the real world.
My fiance is in a correctional treatment facility now. He hasn't started treatment yet. After he is done, he could stay there til out, or be put in a work camp, where he may work with the DNR out in the woods, or on a lake, or another place that actually gets them a job at a factory. It's all part of the getting them used to being back in society again. It's a good thing. Starts to make them feel normal and human again.
Do you know if I am able to visit in this kind of program?
You should be able to visit him. Just check the site of where he will go and see the rules. Usually you don't have to re apply to visit.
It is the beginning of the end of this for both of you. YAY
He is just going to lower security. It is called Work Release or a Work Camp by most of us who have been in prison. It is basically a place like Wisconsin mentioned where they have a set up closer to how it will be when he is released. He will have a job and even more freedom than he does at his present location.
You should be able to see him while he is there.
One note-----these places are notorious as being places to "trick" off a person's time. They have many, many rules and you have to be careful so you will not break any of their petty rules or you will be back up to higher security again. He needs to lay low, follow all the rules to a "T", stay out of drugs or trouble, and get the hell out of there so he can go home.
He should be able to do it without any problems, but he has to be a little more careful than if he was in a minimum security facility.
Hope this helps and congratulations for both you and your guy. When he steps out of that prison it can be the first day of the rest of your life. Make the most of it.
