I wonder if its only for SC?
Is your husband in a state prison or federal prison? If he is in a state prison, which state is he incarcerated?
On the federal level, we have been trying to reduce the 85% time served on a sentence until a federal inmate can even be considered for release to 65%, but we have not been successful. I am fairly certain that you will never see a reduction in the federal sentences as long as Trump is president. He is very “tough on crime” and has stated that he wants to triple the amount of private prison space b/c “it is good business.”
As long as Trump and Sessions are in office, you can expect nothing for inmates.
Changes are possible at the state level with most changes occurring when the state allots more good time credits for DOC inmates. You will probably never see a time when prosecutors or DAs stop insisting on these long sentences or when they advocate for an inmate, so the only recourse is for each state to give out more generous good time credits to the inmates. This takes the time served on a sentence out of the DAs hands and back into the states.
Tell me which state we are looking at and perhaps I can help. Or give me some more information about this legislation.
