Don't be nervous, God doesn't need us to put on any type of face. God is loving and he will give you the strength you need to get through this. Going to church and letting God be in your life is the best decision you could make for your self. God is what is getting both my boyfriend and I through this, my boyfriend has even been able to start a bible study in his "pod" and atheist have been coming up to him and asking about God wanting to turn towards Christ and away from the problems that go them in there.. I am not an overly religious person, but having faith is imperative if one wants to get through these situations in decent shape. Inmates and their loved ones need faith in a Higher Power to help them endure when they become discouraged or weak----which they will all do at some point.

In prison I saw the miraculous effect that having faith had on inmates. Many inmates were Christians or became Christians while locked up and it had a profound effect on their lives. While it is true that some became religious because they were in prison and will forget their faith when released, many men were sincere in their beliefs.

Some of the best people in prison are those who follow their faith.

There are times when we must reach out to a power higher than ourselves to keep going.

This morning was good. I realized how much I've missed the teachings of my Father. Thank you both for your words of encouragement.

I started going to church about 4 months ago. Shortly after my boyfriend's incarceration and I can say without a doubt it is changing my life. I've always been spiritual and believed in a higher power, but was always alone with my faith and without a routine I would get lost. I've found a purpose since finding a church that speaks to me. It imbues me when the stress of all this feels unbearable and for the first time in years I feel stronger. I'm grateful my boyfriend is active in church while he's serving his time. I can hear the smile on his face when he talks about it. I'm so glad you had the courage to attend and face your fears. I hope it means to you what it has for me.

My bf was a big part of me finding my way back. It's why I struggle so much to go without him. To sit in the pew with him not by my side is a very strange feeling. I never stopped talking to my Father. That's always been strong. But I stopped going because it was difficult to be in anyone else's presence besides God's. I turned into a hermit. It's been 4 months and it's just as hard as the first week. I've come to the point of trying everything, no matter how much fear I may have like being in public, to change the feelings I have. To stop the crying and feeling of abandonment. Something I've struggled with for a long time which has unfortunately regressed in the progress of healing. I want to get back to where I was in my healing. I don't want to start over where we did 2 years ago when he gets out. I want to be as he left me.

Neither me or my husband are religious, we are more spiritual then anything else. We made it thru it, if we can anyone can but it always takes two people. You have to be on the same page. It's a lot harder if you dont have any support from family and friends, but we got that support and we were grateful for that.
