I know it's hard, that you both want him home as fast as possible, but this is better that he takes his time so your man has a better chance of coming home than spending years behind bars because he was rushed.
I, too, have no release date to look forward to, so I understand how frustrating the unknown and waiting is. But you have to keep positive about the situation and know that every minute of every day is time being served, which puts him that much closer to you. Would you rather wait 2 years on continuances and find out he was given 36 months or have him see the judge tomorrow and get 5 years ? That's the difference you could be facing if you rush this rather than let things run their course. You are learning patience and you will continue to learn it until you get it. No use being upset and shutting down because of things you can't control.
Continuances are good and you had better hope for all the continuances you can get.
As this thing draws out longer and longer, the complaining witness will be more and more unwilling to be a cooperating witness and she will just get tired of the whole thing. As time goes by and the witness decides she does not want to go through this, they will have to drop the charges.
After all, the only evidence the state has is the testimony of his ex-wife or whoever she is as a witness. If they lose that, no case and your guy walks. Isn't that what you hope for? Isn't that the best possible outcome for you two?
Just remember, I realize you are tired of this thing being postponed and drawn out, but also the WITNESS in the case is just as tired and disgusted as you are---which is good.
At some point, she may decide she does not want to bother with this anymore. Time heals, people forgive and old disagreements and squabbles seem unimportant anymore. As time goes on, she will probably not be as angry and vengeful toward your guy as she is now. Time heals everything.
Also nobody's memory improves with time. As time marches on, a witnesse's memory will fade and their story will not be as presentable as it once was.
Continuances and delays almost always work in favor of the defendant in any criminal proceeding.
Be patient, the DAs case may just fall apart given enough time.
