New here. Still waiting to see my dads sentence. It could be months, it already has. And I'm a mess. I cry all the time, I wake up in the middle of the night. And just. Worry. There are so many unknowns and with my sisters living out of state I'm the big sister. Trying to be there for my mom and feeling helpless. My coworkers all work with various law enforcement so no one understands. They all think he's getting what he deserves. And they don't even know him. And the worst is imagining how hard it WILL be for my dad.
Who is to determine what anyone "deserves?"
Unless people know a lot about the case, they would do well to not be judgmental, as what happened to you can happen to any family.
With the wacky criminal justice system we now have, anyone can be accused and convicted of a crime; none of us are immune.
I believe in punishment, but I do not believe in an eye-for-an-eye, as that is just pure retribution which is counterproductive to rehabilitation. We don't need to ruin people----or the families of inmates---just so we can extract that last pound of flesh.
