I was a pharmacist. Go to Wal Mart and you can buy 100 Diphenhydramine 25mg tabs or caps for four dollars. Diphenhydramine is the generic name for Benadryl.

Go home and take 50mg (2 tabs or caps) at bedtime. That should put you to sleep.

You can up it to 100 mg if you need, but start out at 50mg (2 tabs or caps). You probably do not need 100 mg, as 50 mg works well.

Diphenhydramine is an old antihistamine which causes a high degree of sedation and it is the main ingredient in most OTC sleeping aids.

Ask the pharmacist or his or her clerk for some Diphenhydramine (generic benadryl).

I know when this first happened for me I didn't sleep good for at least 8-9 months and here it is over a year and I still have my nights when I don't sleep. I tried relaxation cd's which helped some, reading or watching tv helps me now. I normally go to sleep with my tv on just for noise in the house.

I'll try the benadryl. I'm just exhausted. Thank you, everybody. Sometimes just sharing what's going on is good enough. I just worry bc I drive pretty far to & from work each day and I find myself zoning out during those rides. I've started listening to LOUD music while I drive.

This is normal, especially at first. You are experiencing many things you have to learn to deal with. The loss of him, the fear of what will happen to him, and to you and your life. You lost his companionship, and him in bed at night. It's a lot to think about and the brain just doesn't shut off. Yes, do use Benadryl. It works and doesn't make you too groggy in the morning. It will help til you start sleeping better. It takes awhile to adapt.

You can use melatonin also. Purchase at a drug store completely natural. This really helped me sleep.
